Combatants Will Be Dispatched “The Right Way To Clear A Tower” Review

Combatants Will Be Dispatched “The Right Way To Clear A Tower” is the third episode of the Combatants Will Be Dispatched anime. Following on from his previous shenanigans in Episode 2 Agent 6 is somewhat revered by the Princess and the military. It doesn’t last long though.

The Chosen One

Spending the beginning of the episode boasting about his tactics and how the military in that country are a bunch of idiots. Agent 6 is told a story by the Princess. The story is exactly what you’d expect, a chosen one is given great power to defeat the Demon Lord with and can be identified by a mark appearing on their hand. Having a mark on his had from the last mission Agent 6 gets excited. It turns out just to be an insect bite though. Which he was unknowingly treated for in the first episode.

Spending some time with Rose. Agent 6 and Alice learn that Rose has no memories of her past. Using that as the perfect cover up they make her an honorary member of the Kisaragi Corporation.

The Tower

During a briefing with the military Agent 6 learns that the chosen one (who’s the Princess’ brother) has been defeated at the top of a tower. The tower is meant to hold the secret to defeating the Demon Lord. Asking Agent 6 for his opinion on what they should do he suggests they get to the center then set fire to the tower burning everything in it. It’s a good plan but not something a Knight should do so it’s dismissed.

Later outside the tower, Agent 6 and his team are waiting until sundown. Whilst the knights fight on a full frontal attack. Agent 6 knows that’s a dumb idea and tries to talk Snow down but she’s determined and goes to join them. Only to show up later exhausted. Alice then uses a gun to fire bits of metal into the side of tower so they can all use them as climbing rods. Climbing up from the outside. When they get to the top they kick one demon until he’s dangling then threaten to throw rocks until he falls if the other does anything. They pelt the other demon with rocks until he’s almost dead. Using this leverage Agent 6 asks for money from the other or he won’t let him go.

Review

Honestly, this is the best episode so far. The humour of Agent 6 being a scumbag and the childish nicknames have stuck. The team are working well together despite thier obvious differences and it’s clear Agent 6 is chaotic but not nearly as dumb as people think.

The nickname for Snow and Grimm being casually used had me rolling. The dry humour that initially got me into the series is back and I love it. Plus the typical “let’s take the mick out of the tropes in this kind of series.” Is back. When Agent 6 whines to Alice that he’s not had a single “accidental fondle book encounter.”

This show is amazing. Funny. Self aware but also does have hints of a sweeter side to Agent 6. Only for a split second though. Every character is amazing and I applaud the effort that’s gone into making the show. You can see with every scene and ridiculous expression that sincere hard work has gone into it.

Also Alice is a queen who’s dry humour always catches me off guard. I love her.
