9-1-1 – Rock the Boat Review

9-1-1 – “Rock the Boat” aired Thursday, March 21st on ABC. “Rock the Boat” is episode 2 of season 7 and a continuation of last week’s episode. The series explores the high-pressure experiences of first responders who are forced into the most terrifying, shocking, and heartbreaking circumstances.

In “Rock the Boat”, the disastrous cruise continues when Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett) respond to the ship’s explosion, racing to aid injured passengers. Meanwhile, Hen (Aisha Hinds) questions her instincts in a life-taking call and grows concerned about Athena and Bobby’s whereabouts. Below is our review of 9-1-1, “Rock the Boat”.

Overall Thoughts

I think we need a new rule, Bobby and Athena can never take a vacation. Athena has earned a whole new level of respect as she talks back and stands up to a pirate. Can’t be the only one who did not suspect Lola (Romy Rosemont) and Julian (Rick Cosnett) to be the smugglers and have an affair with each other. It feels a little out of character for her since she tried so hard to make Norman (Daniel Roebuck) notice her back in season two.

So on top of just dealing with pirates who took out all the systems, the ship is now stuck in a hurricane and the pirates planted an explosion; this is definitely not your typical cruise disaster. I’m afraid to ask what else could go wrong. It’s time to abandon ship. You know I shouldn’t have even thought is that question, as of course a giant wave hits the boat next, capsizing the ship. I am getting some serious Titanic vibes as this ship is sinking with Bobby and Athena.

“What the hell’s taking you two so long? People are losing their minds up there, come on” – Julian Enes (Rick Cosnett)

Hen being level-headed even while dealing with an irate drunk driver, is something I could never be. One of the standout moments of this episode is when Hen puts her job on the line while listening to her gut instinct. She is the first to notice that something is wrong. The two-week flashback gave us a chance to see Bobby in therapy, just as Athena did last week. Toward the end, when Bobby and Athena were telling each other how much they loved each other as the water rose, I started to tear up. If we thought the tsunami episodes were insane, these episodes have nothing it. I am not mentally ready for next week’s episode.
