86: Eighty Six “All That’s Left” Review

86: Eighty Six “All That’s Left” is the twenty-first episode of the 86 anime. And the final until the anime resumes airing in March. Following the events of episode 20. And a stark contrast to them. The eagerly awaited battle is here. Kiriya vs Shin. But the episode is not without it’s shock casualties.

Death Was Always The Endgame

Whilst traveling towards where the Morpho and Kiriya is, Raiden asks Frederica in private to keep an eye on Shin. She agrees. The team need to cross dangerous terrain where Anju is knocked off a cliff and surrounded by Legion. She’s left to, presumably, die. Though her death is never shown. With the Legion hot on their tails Theo drags down some building debris to take them himself and slow them down so Raiden and Shin can get to their goal. On their way though, Raiden is injured with shrapnel stuck in his arm, Fido has to take Frederica and he’s out of the game for a bit.

Finally Shin gets to Kiriya and Frederica uses her power to watch the fight, she warns Shin of potential dangers even though Shin trapped her inside Fido and instructed him to take her back to base should he die. Kurena uses her sniper abilities to keep Shin safe but the Morpho takes her out almost instantly. The fight is looking bleak when Shin falls into one of Kiriya’s traps but Raiden returns and shoots the Morpho’s guns stopping it from getting him. The victory is short lived though as Raiden is then shot immediately by the Morpho.

Frederica uses herself as a means to get through to Kiriya and distract him from Shin’s moves. Eventually it works when she threatens to shoot herself. And Shin manages to Shoot Kiriya with the help of Frederica. The Morpho activates self destruct mode though and blows up, presumably taking Shin with it.

Honestly this was such an emotional rollercoaster. So many big deaths so soon, I refused to believe it. Raiden’s death hit me even harder than Daiya’s did and that left me a sobbing mess for hours. Shocking but emotional at the same time. This is how you write good anime. I’m just sad we need to wait until March for new episodes but I’m happy to wait if the quality is even half this good. It’ll be worth it. Fantastic episode all around.
