To Your Eternity “Infatuation Reborn” Review

To Your Eternity “Infatuation Reborn” is the first episode from the second season of the To Your Eternity anime. The twenty first overall. Following on almost forty years from the end of episode 20, this episode sets up the time jump, Fushi’s mental state and starts to introduce us to the world as it is now with one new key character. This new, Hisame, character is already shifty as she’s the granddaughter of Hayase and has her spirit reborn into her. Fushi is introduced to the concept of Fye and Tonari is re-introduced though Fushi is knocked out when she is so he’s unaware as of now.

Review

This was a great first episode of the season. Apparently this story arc is controversial amongst fans and I suppose I can see why, Fushi acts like himself but also unlike himself as he’s still trying to figure out his own mental state. The whole, Hayase keeping the Nokker in her and passing it down thing is especially interesting and could be great depending on how it’s handled. If Hisame turns out to just be as obsessed with Fushi because “immortality” as her grandmother then I feel that could be a wasted opportunity for her but it’s clear Tonari doesn’t trust her at all and her instincts are usually never wrong.

The whole thing was great, they stuffed a whole ton of information into one episode without it feeling overly long or slow paced, that’s a difficult thing to do. What I can’t wait for now is to see how Tonari deals with Hisame and what Fushi will make of all this, his mental health is bound to get a bit better when he sees his old friend.
