Tokyo 24 Ward “Youth 24 Ward” Review

Tokyo 24 Ward “Youth 24 Ward” is the twelfth episode of the Tokyo 24 Ward anime. Immediately following the discussion at the end of episode 11. This episode, the finale, shows RGB’s efforts to talk to Asumi and get the closure they need. It’s eventually decided that Asumi will fade away of her own choice and a new KANAE system that depends on people’s opinions will replace the new one no matter how flawed it is.

A Finale Speed run

As much as I loved this episode, I have to admit it felt forced and very rushed at times. RGB taking on Asumi’s responsibility of choosing the best outcome then hoping that all of the 24th ward will do the same is honestly kinda irresponsible. They should’ve let Asumi die, yes, but the KANAE system should’ve gone with her. As much as that would put people in danger they’re in much more danger if they do the ridiculous thing of trusting others to be generous and selfless, it just won’t work. So in that sense the finale felt like it was just playing safe a “how do we make sure not to make any unpopular decisions here?” choice and that never goes down well.

In the same respect it felt rushed. Like the company just didn’t want to deal with it anymore and threw out the most vanilla ending possible as quickly as possible. Perhaps it’s sour grapes because I’m a fan and have been cheering this show on since it’s debut but they really didn’t do the show justice with this episode at all. They didn’t ruin it but it could’ve been handled better.

Overall a very mid tier episode to a show I actually really liked.
