The Executioner And Her Way Of Life “The Lost One” Review

The Executioner And Her Way Of Life “The Lost One” is the second episode of the Virgin Road anime. Following the discovery of the new Lost One in episode 1. Menou follows the intel Momo got and finds Akari, the girl from her dreams. And though she doesn’t know it yet, Menou has been in Akari’s dreams too. Menou tries to get the job done but Akari’s power is too great as her Pure Concept is “Time” meaning she can just reverse time if she dies, she doesn’t remember the assassination attempt though so it gives Menou time to lure her somewhere where she can be dealt with.

Menou’s Task

The task set for Menou is riddled with red flags from the start. The episode makes it obvious that it’s not going to be as simple as just getting to where they need to be by train and killing Akari. Introducing the Princess to the show was a good move, along with showing how the King is facing consequences for his actions. It really hammers home that this is a world where the power struggle between the church and nobles especially is not only no secret but is something that can blow up in either side’s face in an instant. During episode 1 I was convinced the Church was dodgy and Menou was on the wrong side, whilst I still believe that, seeing the power vacuum in this world has made me re-think who should win the struggle and who should lose.

Momo makes a very good observation too. It’s obvious that it’s not just jealousy driving her, she can tell that complicated feelings are going to arise soon enough between Akarai and Menou and wants to protect Menou from that as much as possible.

Loved this episode and loved seeing more of Akari, she really is sweet without it being too much, which can get annoying in some characters.
