Tokyo 24 Ward “Silver Salt” Review
Tokyo 24 Ward “Silver Salt” is the ninth episode of the Tokyo 24 Ward anime. Starting a whole new story from the one left over in episode 8. This episode focuses on basically info dumping why the KANAE system was put in place, who 0th really is and why he’s called that and basically clears up any questions fans may have about the system’s past.
Clearing Up The Past
The first part of this episode naturally focuses on Kanae herself when she was alive and the guilt that led her to creating the system in use now. However even show knows that it has a major flaw, later revealed to be the “brain” of the system. A human brain is needed, a digital brain cannot make the calculations needed to power such a prevalent system.
The episode itself is slowly paced but well paced. Only things that are needed to know are included and there’s no “dead air” moments which is a real threat to a filler type episode like this. The episode shows new sides to characters previously thought to be suspicious or shady, showing a whole new side to them. Though one “twist” is so obvious it’s not much of a revelation at all. The rest is interesting though, this episode alone has made me go from hating Wataru to actually really liking him. He’s far more complex than he seems, though it does make you wonder if he knows something is suspicious with the KANAE system why does he protect it so much. Does he have his own agenda?
Overall though, this episode exists to give existing characters reasons for the things they are currently doing. It does it well enough but I think only people who really love the show and have been following it will likely care about this episode. For the casual viewer it’ll likely be a bore-fest but that’s OK. I loved it as it’s changed my mind about characters I either didn’t like or was on the fence about, so as far as I’m concerned it did it’s job perfectly.
