To Your Eternity “Wandering Rage” Review

To Your Eternity “Wandering Rage” is the nineteenth episode of the To Your Eternity anime. Following on from the battle of Jananda in episode 18. Fushi faces another enemy and difficult choice. And Hayase makes her intentions known.

Saving Tonari

The episode begins with Hayase playing at protecting the people from the Nokkers. Which turns into one of the Nokkers trying to take over her once she’s alone. She talks to it and it seems like it can understand because it does hesitate. She uses the hesitation as a way to rip the core out of her arm and it scuttles away. Then, she notices Sandel and Tonari running away from the Nokkers to safety. Hayase, gets reasy to throw a small dagger at Tonari but she is stomped on by bear Fushi. Unfortunately, Fushi hasn’t changed and still won’t kill her so he goes and rescues Tonari and Sandel from the zombie Nokkers by setting them alight.

“The Creator” tells him there’s only three Nokkers left and they turn out to be Oopa, Mia and Uroy. Tonari is in shock as she hadn’t known they’d been taken over. And Fushi refuses to kill them. Before anyone knows what’s going on, Hayase has both Sandel and Tonari asleep. Holding Tonari over the flames. She tries to bargain with him that she’ll kill the three Nokkers and let Tonari go if he accepts her as she’s trying to keep him unsullied.

Hayase and Tonari’s new fates

Before Fushi can even think about it Tonari throws herself into the pit dragging Hayase with her. Of course, it’s Hayase so she doesn’t die. Fushi jumps and catches them both, saving them both. Fushi takes the sword trembling in Tonari’s hands and kills the last three Nokkers.

From there, the island is mostly peaceful. With people looking to Tonari for guidance, she begs word to get around that the bloodshed needs to stop. Determined to make a better life for everyone on the island, no matter what, things do look peaceful. For now. Fushi knows he has to leave so he leaves Tonari in charge whilst he goes off in a small boat with a knocked out Hayase to a random spot in the sea. Waiting for her to wake up. She does and he demands she explain why she won’t leave him alone. She explains that she’s in love with him and begs him to kill her so that he can become her and they can be as one. Disgusted, he creates another boat, gets on it and leaves her in the middle of the sea. Whilst getting directions from Ligard, the owl that Tonari gifted to him. He makes it to the shore. The episode doesn’t end there, Hayase is seen being attacked and taken over by a Nokker core.

Review

Man I loved this episode! It, once again, showed Tonari’s resistance against poisons and Ligard’s intelligence. Though it’s obvious she will die at some point it’s not obvious when so we’ll have to see. This show keeps playing with my sense of morality. For example, whilst Hayase is obviously mental, a lot of what she says makes perfect sense. She reasons that he shouldn’t be “sullied” and she’s kinda right. He’s not human so he shouldn’t follow the more illogical reasoning of humans, furthermore she reasons that she’s stronger than anyone else he has in his collection so he should kill her and use her. Whilst the thought of it is gross because she’s a monster, it’s perfectly logical.

Thankfully I have a feeling we’ll be seeing alot more of Hayase and for that I’m forever grateful. She’s almost more dangerous than the Nokkers. A perfect villain for a brilliant show. Once again To Your Eternity didn’t disappoint.
