To Your Eternity “A Large Vessel” Review

To Your Eternity “A Large Vessel” is the fourth episode of the To Your Eternity anime. And just like in episode 3 Fushi continues to make progress. He’s learning more and more thanks to March. However Parona and March have no idea what’s in store for them.

It’s all for power

Being led away to Yanome by Hayase. Parona and March find out from a fake Shaman that Ninnanah’s entire ceremony is bogus. Forced upon the people of the village by the Yanome in order to control them through fear. After they’re thankful enough the Yanome plan to take over and become even more militant than they are at the moment. This isn’t so much of a shock to Parona as she’s never trusted the whole thing to begin with. Especially seeing as her sister gave her life to save her and March is too young really to understand.

With the political talk over all three are taken to Yanome and made to pretend they’re citizens. Yanome is huge and thriving, far from the small quaint village that March comes from. Even Fushi seems overwhelmed by it all. With all the small cuts to his face it’s obvious he’s learnning new stimuli by the minute, making sense of it is hard though.

In prison

Before long they’re slipped sleeping drugs and dragged to prison. Hayase believes Fushi could become a powerful weapon to help keep the Yanome in power. Eventually, it’s clear he can’t be controlled so he’s sent to March’s cell so she can teach him. Kinda backfires though as Fushi digs underground and comes across the are they’re keeping Oniguma.

March is put in control of taking care of Oniguma and healing him back health. As Oniguma dies though, Fushi makes a connection with it, meaning he’ll likely be able to take it’s form. The episode ends with Parona dressing up as a Yanome soldier and going to break March and Fushi out of jail. Her endgame being to take the head and eyes of Oniguma back to the village so she can prove to them they’ve been hoodwinked this entire time.

Review

Regardless of the lack of any real action this is a great episode. Both March and Fushi do alot of learning throughout the entire episode as she learns about the cruelty of the world and the people in it and Fushi learns about bonding with others and kindness through her. It’s not explicitly shown but it is heavily hinted at that Fushi is growing to learn more and more emotionally. There are small moments in the episode where he even seems human.

This duality of learning life lessons is what pushes this episode from good to great. March is no longer a child who’s whimsy is her biggest issue. She can see now that people want to hurt her and she’s starting to fight back. On the other hand Fushi is learning care and devotion from her as she tends to Oniguma and as she and Parona protect each other as best they can.

It’s a slow mover but it works best being that way as so much is learned in such a small amount of time it doesn’t feel like it. Side note, March is adorable and I love her.
