The Executioner And Her Way Of Life “Taboo In Red” Review

The Executioner And Her Way Of Life “Taboo In Red” is the third episode of the Virgin Road anime. Following the suspenseful cliff-hanger at the end of episode 2 the inevitable happens and the train ride for the girls is nowhere near as peaceful as Menou thought. Princess Ashuna gets into a fight with Momo for reasons unknown, though she does give a reason it’s clear there’s something she’s not saying. And the sheer power of Akari’s Pure Concept is put into the spotlight.

Time Travel

Whilst Menou and Momo deal with their individual issues, it’s clear Akari’s Pure Concept is used at some point. But it doesn’t make sense, up until the end of the episode where it becomes clear that Akarai has changed the course of the future by going right back before she goes to see Menou in the engine room and saving everyone’s lives. The future is changed not because of her sheer power though but because in this timeline Menou decides to work with Akari instead of seeing her as a liability or something to just get rid of. Perhaps part of her knew that or it was just luck but if she hadn’t worked together with Akari everyone would be dead as in the past they avoided. This is very much touching on the subject that this show always has and furthering my assumption that the Church aren’t the good guys, that the Lost One’s aren’t something to be feared necessarily but perhaps they could be trained to use their Mage Craft.

Even more telling that the Priestesses aren’t exactly the good guys is the fact that Momo denies to the Princess that the church even has Assassins. If they weren’t doing anything wrong, they wouldn’t have to hide it so much. It was only a feeling but I’m certain now. Menou is on the wrong side and Akari will help her see it. Loved this episode even if it didn’t go as I thought, can’t wait to see where Menou goes from here.
