Summertime Render “Goodbye Summer Day” Review

Summertime Render “Goodbye Summer Day” is the first episode of the anime adaptation of the manga by the same name. Streaming on Disney+ , which might serve to be an obstacle for a lot of people, the show follows Shinpei Ajiro as he looks into mysteries that start to unravel after he finds the death of his friend Ushio suspicious.

The Shadows

Well, that escalated quickly, no spoilers but this episode is worth the slightly slow pacing at the beginning. Once things pick up and it’s clear Shinpei is in way over his head the show has an ironclad grip on you that won’t let up. I loved the small details, every part of the show using the slow pace at the beginning to make everyone look as suspicious as possible. Then to get hit with what happens at the end to pull the rug straight from underneath you.

It’s on it’s way to being genius because whilst watching it I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to watch the show again. Then when the end is revealed so many little things slot into place and it becomes an obsession that I can’t wait to see more of! Time will tell if this is more than a one episode wonder but it’s off to a damn good start.
