The Case Study Of Vanitas “Hands Upon A Nightmare” Review

The Case Study Of Vanitas “Hands Upon A Nightmare” is the seventeenth episode of the Vanitas anime. This episode shows the disastrous actions that happen because Chloe tries to kill Naenia as shown that the end of episode 16. Noe and Vanitas meanwhile try to fix the issue. Whilst more is shown of Jeanne’s past.

Killing the Beast

It felt like last episode was a set up for what’s going to happen next but apparently that’s this episode. Because that’s all it is basically. Some action sprinkled in there but it’s all set up for the final showdown. Will Jeanne be able to save Chloe? Should she even bother if Chloe has fallen so far? What will happen to Jeanne-Jacques?

Our heroes are joined by Roland and the other Chasseurs but they’re main job is to protect the citizens whilst Vanitas tries to think of something. As far as everyone knows he’s got the book but even he doesn’t know where it is. And is by all intents and purposes useless. This episode did try to expand on Vanitas’ character a bit more by giving him a couple of throwaway lines. Things I doubt he’d say if he knew he had the book and felt more safe. It gives more insight into him. Not much but he is a mysterious character so of course not much.

Apparently he hates vampires and has lost a lot to their kind. Talking about his time in the lab maybe? Who knows. It’s a throwaway line but one that’s packed with meaning.

Overall Thoughts

5 episodes into the second cour and Vanitas is slowly but surely becoming the most boring anime I’m currently watching. I remember feeling the same way about cour 1 before it managed to grab my attention again. I’m begging the show does because at the moment it’s painful viewing.
