The Case Study Of Vanitas “Just The Two Of US” Review
The Case Study Of Vanitas “Just The Two Of Us” is the eighteenth episode of the Vanitas anime. And all of episode 17 ‘s set up worked. This episode makes up for most of the tedium of it’s predecessor. The fight finally starts and everyone is put into their groups. There is a small flashback of Astolfo and his past but it’s nowhere near as jarring as the constant Chloe and Jeanne nonsense.
Chloe Is Brought Back
Vanitas very early on gets Dante and Richte to get his book back after getting it’s location out of Jean-Jacques. Before the fighting begins, Astolfo’s story is told. Not much to report on there, just a very clear and obvious way to make the audience see him as someone with a motive and care about him. Personally I would’ve preferred if they hadn’t done the obvious and just made him a straight up psycho for no reason. But that’s not how tropes work so I’ll go with it.
The fighting finally starts and it’s genuinely interesting. Whilst the fighting is going on we have flashbacks and revelations from characters that makes sense of everything and as trope-y as it is. It’s well directed so it works a charm. Vanitas finally uses Chloe’s own machine to make her for materialise so she can be freed from the curse.
Unfortunately from the end scene it looks like Vanitas is going to save Chloe and Jean-Jacques. I would love if this was a fake out and he fails because then at lease we have some sort of story here. But it’s really looking like he’s gonna save them. Let’s hope not. And pray for a big twist next episode!
