Superman and Lois “What Lies Beneath” Roundtable

After one too many months off the air for our liking Superman and Lois is back for season 2’s premiere – What Lies Beneath. And this episode was jam packed with good stuff. So let’s jump into it.

What Lies Beneath Synopsis

Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) struggle as a couple; Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik) adjusts to running The Smallville Gazette with Lois; Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) faces new challenges on the football field; secrets threaten to destroy Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Sarah’s (Inde Navarrette) growing relationship.

What do you think of the boys Jordan and Jonathon’s girl issues?

PB: They are teenage boys so girl trouble and hormones are bound to get them in trouble. I have a feeling Jordan and Sarah are gonna break up. I just have this gut feeling she cheated on him at her summer camp.

C:  Yeah, I think you’re right B, I think Sarah met someone else at camp and is too gutless to tell Jordan. Leading him on is not cool.
As for Jonathan, come on… of COURSE that was gonna happen. You don’t leave a hormonal teenage boy home alone with his new girlfriend and expect things aren’t gonna get spicy!

R: This was bound to come sooner or later, wasn’t it? I mean, like PB already said they are teenage boys. They wanna try new stuff, which might get them in trouble afterwards. Clear thinking is not always an option when puberty hits you. I agree with PB, Sarah probably cheated on him and then realized that Jordan might not be as perfect as she first thought he would be. Let’s see what’s going to happen this season. A lot more drama obviously. Don’t think that Jonathan’s relationship will last for a long time even though he deserves some happiness. Truly.

Lois’s attitude this episode really sucked, do you think her reason behind her attitude was justified?

C: She stopped seeing her therapist didn’t she? I get that seeing Natalie (Tayler Buck) was obviously a shock for her, but I thought she had learned last season that bottling stuff up and not talking to her family was not the way to go. She’s also being an ass to Chrissy, who has nothing to  do with any of her family drama, so I don’t think it was justified, but I do kinda understand I think.

R: I honestly think that her attitude was completely justified. Maybe three months are a bit too long for keeping this whole behavior but a situation like that truly needs time. You can’t just get back to normal and pretend that everything’s fine and nothing happened. You have to figure it out. Deal with it even though this might be tough. Talking to Natalie was a first step in the right direction. Let’s see how things are gonna work out now that they’re all living together.

PB: I don’t think so at all. She was just taking her issues out and everyone, Maybe she needs to go back to her therapist and get some help. I know losing a child or parent isn’t easy and the fact that Natalie has the same name as the child she lost doesn’t make it any easier. She needs help.

What or who do you think is coming out of the Earth’s core?

C: Well I’m pretty sure it’s nothing good. I’ve been sitting here since I finished the episode, wracking my brains for who/what it could be and the only thing I can think of is Doomsday. Which would be REALLY bad.

PB: It’s gonna be another super villain for sure. I am just not sure which one.

R: Something bad. Definitely something bad and evil. On the one hand I wanna know who or what it is but on the other hand I’m scared and don’t want more people to get hurt anytime soon. However, excitement is still there.

We have a new head of the DOD and he doesn’t seem to like Superman too much. Thoughts on his new “superman team”?

R: First of all, huge congratulations to Ian Bohen for making this new general looking pretty interesting and bad from the very beginning. He gave this kinda extra touch to the character even though we haven’t seen a lot of him yet. But what we’ve seen is very promising talking about a wicked general. This relationship between Superman and Lieutenant Mitch Anderson won’t end well. I have a feeling that Mitch is turning into a super evil person anytime soon. Maybe not that soon but definitely at some point. He has that certain something to turn into a person Superman will fight one day.

C: mutters something about obeying anything Ian Bohen says WHAT?! Uhhh, yeah, I thought I hated Sam for the way he treated Clark but right now… come back General Lane, all is forgiven. Anderson is an asshat, and I think his team of super-kiddies are gonna get their asses well and truly kicked.

PB: I never like the military views on Superman. They always want to control him and work with him. And it looks like they have decided to make their own controllable super team. I am sure this isn’t going to end well.

Natalie is going to be sticking around. Do you think she and Lois will be able to have a good relationship?

PB: I really hope so cause they need each other if only to help heal from what they both have lost.

R: It won’t be easy considering the fact that they’ve been through a lot, but knowing Lois I think they might be able to make it work at some point even though it may seem a bit far away from now on. Fingers crossed. They just need to continue talking to each other.

C: I think it’s going to be a lot of work for them, and potentially very strange for both families, but I do hope they find some understanding/common ground.

Superman is getting Migraines or Visions. What do you think of that?

PB: I am interested to see where they are taking this. Cause I don’t remember Superman ever seeing the future.

C: Well they seemed to be connected to the seismic events around the world, which in turn were connected to whatever that was that was buried in the mine in Smallville. If it does turn out to be Doomsday then that’s a huge yikes!

R: A strange thing to be honest. I mean, Superman can’t be all perfect obviously. He also has his weak spots and limits. But these migraines or whatever it was definitely aren’t really looking promising to be honest. Hopefully this will be dealt with fast. Maybe someone can help him figure out what it is and why it’s happening. John Henry maybe?

Superman and Lois  – What Lies Beneath rating:

C: 6

R: 7.5

PB: 9
