So much exciting things in store this next month! Two of Rob’s films are going to the Berlin Film Festival, Queen of the Desert and Life. I know, as a fan, I’ve been waiting for Life. At first, I thought that Rob was only playing a supporting role in the film. Come to find out though, he is the star (as always, for me anyway).
Queen of the Desert, starring Nicole Kidman, James Franco and Damian Lewis alongside Rob, is a movie directed by Werner Herzog. The film tells the story of Gertrude Bell (1868-1926) who, as historian, novelist and member of the British secret service, played a decisive role around 1920 in setting the course for the new political order in the Middle East. Rob’s role will be that of T.E. Lawrence, aka Lawrence of Arabia. Although his role is smaller, I’m sure he nails it like he does everything else he’s in. The film will be in competition and will premiere on February 6th.
Life, starring Dane DeHaan as James Dean and Rob as Dennis Stock, is a movie directed by Anton Corbijn. The film shows us the relationship of Stock (a photographer) and James Dean after Dean’s role in East of Eden. Stock is trying to further his career with Life Magazine through the lens, following Dean to his Indiana home and later to NYC. The film is part of the Berlinale Special Gala and will debut February 9th. It is said that Rob will be in attendance for this event. Berlin Film Festival
Let’s not forget though, even though he is not slated to attend, that Rob is up for Best Supporting Actor at the AACTA Awards on January 28th for his role as Reynolds in The Rover.
