Superman and Lois Last Sons of Krypton Roundtable

The first season of Superman and Lois is coming to an end and this episode “Last Sons of Krypton” packs a punch. It starts off right where the last one ended with Jordan being kidnapped by Edge.  With Superman and Lois freaking out cause they can’t find their son.

Last Sons of Krypton Synopsis

Superman (Tyler Hoechlin)’s worst nightmare comes to life, and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) confronts Leslie Larr (Stacey Farber); Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui), Kyle (Erik Valdez) and Sarah (Inde Navarrette) agree to stay to help General Lane (Dylan Walsh).

What did you ladies think about Edge kidnapping Jordan (Alex Garfin)? Did you think he was going to eradicate Jordan?

C: After the end of last week’s ep yeah. What I’m wondering though now is, since Jordan has had the consciousness and abilities of a full Kryptonian for a bit, will that give him more powers once he gets back to being himself? He was still flying (hovering?) after Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) broke Zeta’s control.

R: I truly don’t know what I did expect him to do but clearly nothing nice and sweet that’s for sure. Edge is never up for anything good. He wouldn’t just kidnap him and have a good conversation with a cup of tea. He’s the good looking villain of the story, right?

PB: I honestly thought he was just kidnapping him to use him to get Superman to come to his side. I was shocked he eradicated him.

Edge/Tal Ro (Adam Rayner) came back to Smallville and took more people to form a counsel of former Krytonians.  Am I the only one confused by this?

PB: So they are basically body snatchers? I kinda don’t get it. Do you guys?

R: Seems like the good looking villain can’t do sh*t without his little puppets, right? I would say that he needs a better plan next time but we all know that’s never gonna happen. At least these little puppets were trying their best. But hey, you just can’t stand a chance against Superman.

C: Yeah I didn’t really see the point of that, calling them the Security Council, when it seemed their only purpose was to be expendable goons to hold Superman off while Tal Rho used the X-K in the mines to turn the whole of Smallville into Kryptonians.

Jonathan finally got his gun and got to help protect his family, Pretty cool moment don’t you think?

C: I loved that they trusted him enough to defend his mom and brother, even if he didn’t seem to exactly trust himself to start with. I really loved the fact that it was his humanity that broke through Zeta Rho’s control and brought Jordan back though.

PB: I loved that moment for him, he has been needing that all season.

R: I truly adored Jonathan right from the start and I’m proud of him. He’s capable of doing more stuff than he thinks. May not have his own super power just yet, but let’s see about that. However, he can survive just being himself. Maybe a gun as a little help.

Lois’s moment with Jordan was heartbreaking but so powerful and amazing that she got through to him in time. Were you worried she wouldn’t?

PB: I was hoping Jonathan would have gotten powers or something but I was glad Lois got through to him.

R: I trusted her that she would be able to do it. Wasn’t really that worried to be honest. They would have found another way no matter what. Good always wins, right?

C: It felt a little, I dunno, easy. And it wasn’t even really Lois that got through to him, it was Jonathan. Plus, how was she still in his head when Zeta Ro woke up, ditched the device and was throttling Jonathan in mid-air?

The fight with Edge, kinda anticlimactic or just right?

PB: I was expecting more. Like more of a big fight. But it was over really fast for me. It was good, it just wasn’t enough for me.

C: It was pretty anticlimactic to be honest. Defeated by a hammer… that was all it took to defeat this insanely overpowered Kryptonian? Really?

R: Guess they didn’t have a lot of ideas going around? It wasn’t the worst but I did expect a bit more of an actual fight if I’m being completely honest. More action and drama and heartbreak and all the stuff you need for the long overdue fight we’ve been waiting for.

Let’s talk about the other residents of Smallville – what did you guys think about Kyle’s hero moment?

C: Ummm…. Hi…  Yeah, I was kinda worried when the building blew, as Sarah was, but I’m so glad that he got that moment, to show the town how committed he is to them even when they wanted him gone.

R: One of the few scenes where I was like: Do we actually need this right now? I do understand that he somehow needed this hero moment in case of this whole situation, but it still felt a bit off for me. Kinda unnecessary. But hey, at least now everything seems to be back to normal again. Happy for all of them.

PB: I was worried too C but I think something like this had to happen in order to redeem himself in the town’s eyes.

Okay, so, all the Arrowverse shows are in the same universe now, same Earth… So where was Supergirl?

PB: Ha! I have been thinking this all season. Where is the Flash??? I mean we got one character from the Arrowverse – Diggle – but the bigger question is: If the Arrowverse made everyone on the same Earth, how is John Henry from “another earth”? This has confused me from the beginning of the season.

R: Sorry, I have to state this again but I truly don’t know a whole damn lot about the Arrowverse stuff. I do remember some names like the Flash or Oliver Queen but I couldn’t tell you anything about their characters in general. Guess that’s not my world just yet. No pun intended.

C: To be honest I’ve been wondering about this all season. When we see the DOD all the time, where are Kara and Alex? Also, there are at least 2 female Kryptonians on Earth – Kara and Leslie – so what’s with the “Last Sons of Krypton” title?

The cliffhanger, thoughts?

R: Didn’t see this one coming at all. Nice little reunion which will lead to a whole lot of new drama. I’m not surprised. Thought they wouldn’t end it with everyone being happy and safe at least for a moment. Let’s throw John Henry’s daughter in for an upcoming tough time between Lois, Clark, John Henry and his daughter. Sounds fun and not bad at all, right? They always have to end with a cliffhanger and I don’t like it. Same with every other series. Truly not made for this. Now it’s waiting time for my impatient ass.

C: I didn’t love it. I felt like the ending before that, where everything wrapped up kinda neatly, was much better. I understand they needed to have something to tease a second season with, but it felt tacked on to me. It felt like they got confirmation they were being renewed and suddenly went “we need to tease some drama for s2 so, um…let’s bring in John Henry (Wole Parks)’s daughter. It also made me scratch my head because, like you said before B, if Crisis made there only be one Earth now, where did John Henry come from and more importantly where has Natalie (Tayler Buck) been this whole time?

PB: Just wow, I did not see that coming. This is going to be hard on everyone. Especially Clark. Because Lois lost a child and Natalie lost her mother. They are gonna need and want to be in each other’s lives and Clark is not gonna like it. Because John Henry still has feelings for his wife who looked like Lois. Yeah this is gonna be messy for sure. But it wasn’t the best cliffhanger. This shows seasons to be more emotional driven than superhero action driven. Kinda disappointing.

What do you want to see in season 2? Let’s have some predictions.

C: I want an acknowledgement of the comics canon that Jonathan is Superboy so a glimpse of some powers from him would be great. Also for this show to remember that it’s called Superman and Lois. Hopefully Lois buying half of the Gazette will mean we will see her do more of what Lois Lane is best at – being a reporter!
Some crossovers would be good too, it’s felt a little odd this season (yeah, yeah, covid, I know) having had the whole Arrowverse brought together and then…not having any crossover this year.

R: I just want even more Superman content and the same with Jonathan. Maybe he’ll finally get his own super power, who knows? Otherwise I just hope that he’ll get more confident and build the perfect duo together with his brother. Loved the bromance this season. Some ups and downs they had together. Maybe a bit more happiness for both of them next season. And can we bring the football scenes back with Clark as a coach at least for a bit? Other than that there might be even more drama and new villains and maybe some new heroes as well? Let’s see what they’ve got in store for us.

PB: Honestly missed the crossovers this season. I look forward to those episodes so much. I get it because of Covid they couldn’t have those types of episodes. I really hope they have them again next season. I was also hoping to see Superman and Supergirl team up but with Supergirl only having 6 more episodes I doubt I will get to see them together again. Unless there is a surprise at the end of her series.
