Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 | Showrunners Fired

Bad news Fandemaniacs – we just learned Star Trek: Discovery showrunners Aaron Herberts and Gretchen Berg have been fired! What happened here?!

As the show is coming to its second season premiere on CBS the problems behind-the-scenes aren’t just disappearing -sadly! The two were fired following budgetary concerns and reports of staff mistreatment – according to THR.

Sadly those aren’t the first issues CBS has with the showrunners of Star Trek: Discovery! In the first season Bryan Fuller was fired because of budget problems and creative disagreement.

What happens now?

To sort those problems out, Alex Kurtzman, who directed the shows premiere, will take over as showrunner. While the transition is happening, there is a hiatus planned between production of episode 5 and 6!

CBS Television gave the following statement:

We’ve made some producer changes at Star Trek: Discovery. The series continues under the creative vision and leadership of executive producer and co-creator Alex Kurtzman. Discovery remains on course for season two in 2019 with new and continuing stories that build on its successful premiere season.

According to THR, Berg and Harberts went way over their budget for season 2, but as it seems the real problem lies somewhere else. There are big accusations of harrassment. Multiple writers came forward accusing both of them of bullying. Rumor is also going around that Harberts threatened the staff in case they won’t stay quiet.

What’s coming our way on season 2?

It is planned that the second season will air in early 2019 but we don’t have an exact air date yet. Season 2 will be 13 episodes long.

New to the cast is legendary comedian and actress Tig Notaro. She will play the Chief Engineer Denise Reno of the U.S.S. Hiawatha.

The season 1 finale dropped a huge bomb on fans. The Discovery will come in contact with the legendary Enterprise and some of its characters as well.

Anson Mount (Hell On Wheels) will be playing the role of Captain Christopher Pike.

Well.. that’s some news right there. I guess we all are curious where this will lead us aren’t we? Follow along as we will keep you up to date about this. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
