Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom Spoiler Free Review

“Do you remember the first time you saw a dinosaur?” ummmm hell yes!

When Steven Spielberg’s prehistoric predators first hit the movie theatre’s in 1993 they changed cinema forever. To paraphrase Dr Ian Malcolm, after the “oohs” and “aahs” came the running and screaming. The first Jurassic Park’s terrifying suspense has never been matched until now.. Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World

Enter J.A Bayona, director of The Orphanage, who injects his gothic horror passion into the series and conjures a new instalment steeped in tightly-wound tension. Bayona doesn’t just create a white-knuckle ride of frights, he goes bigger than any other Jurassic film has ever gone before. A bold statement I know.

What’s Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom about?

Jurassic World:  Fallen Kingdom finds Jurassic World survivors Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) returning to Isla Nubar to try to rescue the surviving dinosaurs, with a second extinction looming. However, it soon becomes apparent that they’ve been sent there by a team whose intentions are less than honourable than they were originally portrayed. Damned dino smugglers!!

Also stereotypically they have Ted Levine playing the villain, which isn’t a spoiler as the man who said, “Now it places the lotion in the basket” couldn’t play anything else and boy does he play it well. Also watch out for Trump’s toupee, which makes a starring role.

Jurassic World

Given that the team behind this Jurassic sequel have done such a good job of keeping the plot under wraps, I will stop there to preserve your viewing experience.

Thrill a minute!

The island is where Bayona’s disaster movie credentials really come into play. He invokes the relentless intensity of The Impossible’s tsunami scene in a thunderous stampede sequence. This scene also had great emotional intensity, which led me to shed a few tears.

Whilst the film has you on the edge of your seat with nail-biting intensity, it does also deal with some issues regarding animal exploitation and begs the ethical question about what we are responsible for when bringing dinosaurs back to life. There are some upsetting scenes and I would caution anyone from taking their children to see this film, it isn’t in the same vein as the other movies.

Howard and Pratt have developed their characters beyond the archetypes they inhabited before. Claire is a lot more engaging and she shows how her experience in the previous movie has really changed her….and she wears sensible shoes. Owen is more marshmellowy and caring about the people around him, but still has his effortless comic humour. They still have awesome chemistry, best evidenced during the sleepy T-Rex scene.

Minor Flaws

There are a couple of minor complaints…. Jeff Goldblum’s highly televised cameo is too brief, and sadly Michael Giacchino’s score underuses the John Williams classic fanfare…. boooo!!

Fallen Kingdom takes some ballsy irreversible strides, deriving logical conclusions from the original premise and setting up a brace new World for this trilogy’s final chapter.

Let us know what you think! RAAAAAAAAWWR
