RWBY Vol 7 Episode 6 Discussion – A Night Off

After constant missions and vigorous training sessions, the kids finally get a night off to relax! But attending a political rally may not be the most leisurely activity.

This episode kicks off with Ironwood giving our gang a night off from training. It’s Election Night in Mantle/Atlas, with Jacques Schnee versus Robyn Hill for the open council seat. Tensions are rising so the kids go to blow off some steam. Yang (Barbara Dunkelman) and Blake (Arryn Zech) head to a dance club with the members of Team FNKI, Weiss (Kara Eberle) hits the movies with Oscar (Aaron Dismuke) and Jaune (Miles Luna), and Ruby (Lindsay Jones), Ren (Neath Oum) and Nora (Samathan Ireland) attend Robyn’s “Victory Party”.

Sorry for the delay on getting our chat out this week, Sophie and I were at a convention last weekend and have been trying to find the time to sit down and discuss it properly ever since!

What did you think of RWBY Vol 7 Episode 6 overall?

C – It was all too good to be true up until this point so something had to go wrong, I just wasn’t expecting it to go down quite like this. I figured Watts would hack the election somehow and there would be epic riots in Mantle. It was quite an odd episode, for some reason I felt like Weiss would be a bigger part, maybe talking to her team-mates about the Winter maiden to begin with, but it was like that was completely forgotten.

S – I knew something bad had to happen… This season has been very feel good so far, which is far from Rooster Teeth’s norm, they like to play with your emotions like the big meanies they are! The training scene was awesome and seeing how much they have improved – they need to get a wriggle on with explaining Ruby’s semblance though… she split into 3!!! How cool were those Grimm at the end, flying lions!! I want one!

C – Yeah those flying lions were pretty badass. I hope we get to see the fight against those next episode!

There were two big shock moments this week, first up… THAT KISS. Nora finally laid one on Ren who has been pretty distant for the last couple of episodes. I know when we watched the episode together we both squealed (and scared our roommate), but now you’ve had some time to process, what are your feelings?

S –  Don’t forget we high fived too! This made me so happy, you go Nora!! I am still absolutely delighted! I just hope the chaos that Tyrian caused doesn’t put a bump in that road.

C – Yes, yes we did high five while our poor roomie (we were at a convention last weekend) who doesn’t watch RWBY looked at us like we were completely mad. I am really pleased that Nora finally made a move. Her relationship with Ren is the one place she’s not totally gung-ho like she is with everything else. And it was really good to see that Ren didn’t just stand there, he actually pulled her in so he was obviously good with it. Here’s hoping that they can make it work.

Speaking of Ren being distant, why do you think that is? Is it just because of what they are up against or do you think there’s more to it than that?

C – I’m not sure. He has been off ever since they arrived in Atlas really. I’m starting to wonder if perhaps there’s more to his semblance maybe, since as Oscar said everyone is evolving. Guess we will have to wait and see how this one plays out. I don’t doubt that RT are going to keep us off-guard.

S – Hmmmm, he really zoned out during training. I wonder if his semblance is growing he could be on the path to being an empath or it could just be that he and Nora haven’t really had time to figure out what they are to each other. When they arrived at the rally they were arguing about what the relationship between Yang and Blake was but I think we all know they were talking about themselves.

And the second big shock moment, Tyrian’s attack on Robin Hill’s victory party and Watts pinning it on poor Penny.

S – Poor Penny indeed! From the bad guys perspective this plan couldn’t have gone any better it was executed to perfection, which makes me hate them more. Also watching the voting percentages change as the episode went on… GRRRRR!!!! Cheating SOB! As soon as Ruby saw that tail she new it was Tyrian, I know he can move fast but Penny is a robot why could she not keep up with him?! I really hope he gets his just deserts! This scene does kind of explain the fight scene with Qrow and Robyn vs Tyrian in the intro.

C – I wonder if as well as his new mecha-tail he’s had some other upgrades, as he seemed to breeze right through Fiona’s aura to be able to attack her. Perhaps some kind of stealth ability. Or maybe Watts had hacked Penny as well so she couldn’t see Tyrian? I am really excited to see that scene from the intro though with Qrow and Robyn versus Tyrian. Qrow needs to get some damn payback on that creepy bastard!!
