RWBY Vol. 7 Chapter 13 Discussion – The Enemy of Trust
It’s finale time folks. For the last time (this volume anyway) it’s time for Clare and Sophie to break down RWBY Vol 7 Chapter 13. The episode is called The Enemy of Trust and is available to FIRST members now. If you have not yet seen this week’s episode, you probably don’t want to continue reading as this post contains MAJOR SPOILERS. Synopsis
Who will you become when your greatest fears are realized?
That was one hell of a finale. There’s a lot to talk about so let’s kick off with Neo v Team JNOR. Tough on our kids to be fighting Neo on the one hand while trying to evade Atlas guards. Did the fight play out how you thought it would?
C – Yea, I kinda agree with Ren in a way. They didn’t really stand a chance, they still weren’t properly trained, despite everything they have gone through.
S – Pretty much, they didn’t stand a chance, the only way they could have possibly kept hold of the relic IMO is if Ozpin had shown up earlier. I stand by last weeks comment of if Neo had Maiden powers… Watch out world!
C – I would LOVE to see Neo with Maiden powers. That would make one hell of a grudge match between her and Ruby.
Neo obviously ended up with the relic which she gave to Cinder (who is a cockroach who just won’t die). Any predictions on what a maniac Maiden with a Grimm arm might do with it?
C – I really don’t know. Part of me thinks she might keep it and do something diabolical, but I do think she is scared enough of Salem to hand it over.
S – Neo’s expression when Cinder took the relic was interesting to me, it almost said ‘hey! WTF!’. Cinder will probably give it back to Salem, she needs to know what to say to activate it and there is only 1 question left to ask. All of this went down just as Salem happened to roll into town.
Speaking of Cinder, does she just have immaculate timing and bounced the second she saw Ruby, because I would have thought the silver eyes would have been her undoing but lo and behold she was FINE.
S – Ruby’s eyes only activate when Grimm are present so she must have done some damage before Cinder scarpered, Winter did already cut her arm off once but it grew back, pesky Grimm arm!
I apologise in advance for this pun but HOW COOL WAS THE WINTER MAIDEN??? Did you expect Penny to end up taking her power?
C – That’s a huge HELL NO. That was a total shock. The fight between Winter, Penny and Cinder was all kinds of awesome, especially Winter flying on that summoned bird! She was pretty badass, considering we have only ever seen her fight against Qrow back in Vol. 2. Certainly never expected the Winter Maiden powers to pass to Penny, but looking back it’s not THAT big a surprise. Especially when they made a point of Pietro explaining at the start of the volume that she basically has a soul.
S – the Winter Maiden waking up and owning Cinder was amazing! Winter did hold her own for a while but she got pretty badly beaten up. Penny is the new Winter Maiden AWESOME!!!! I thought Winter was a goner when Cinder flew them out of the building, it was pretty cool seeing her flying on the back of a bird!
So Ozpin made an appearance towards the end of the episode, were you shocked at Ironwood for his actions? Also Watts is alive?!
C – Shocked? Definitely. I get that he knew Oz was in there somewhere but IRONWOOD SHOT A KID! He couldn’t have known that Oz would reappear to help save Oscar. Also does this mean that’s Oscar’s semblance now? Nailing superhero landings in a glowy green ball of energy? Cos, I mean, that’s super cool and all.
S – I think Oscar found his semblance! When Ironwood shot Oscar over the ledge and wiped out his aura I just sat there with my mouth open, I couldn’t believe it! I thought last episode that Ironwood had lost his mind but to shoot a kid! Even if Ozpin might have been in there somewhere! Not cool!
C – And yes, I was surprised Watts was still alive. Given how generally off the rails Ironwood is right now, I was expecting him to have put a bullet in the guy after their fight.
Now let’s talk about that cliffhanger. Salem rolling in to town on the back of a giant Grimm whale. I get the feeling that vol. 8 is going to be DARK. Any predictions?
S – I’m absolutely terrified of what is gonna happen next, as this episode went on I could feel the dred creeping in, I really did want to stop watching! If I can’t see it, it’s not true! The whale Grimm was cool though, also I kinda like Salem’s new look far less veiny.
C – I know right as we got to the end you said you were scared and wanted to stop watching. I was trying to be brave but deep down I felt the same. I think Vol.8 is going to begin with Ironwood using the staff to raise Atlas while Salem rains hell (and untold Grimm) down on Mantle. Those left behind are going to have to make a choice. I’m probably wrong, but whatever does happen I know these next few months are going to be HELL waiting.
S – Ironwood needs to be locked in a loony bin! Salem was creating flying monkeys last season so i think we are in for a treat with some of the Grimm that she bought with her. I 100% agree it’s gonna be hell waiting for vol.8, the ending of this season really didn’t feel right, it was too ‘wait, what? You can’t end it there!’
C – I forgot all about the flying monkeys! Yeah, definitely think we will be seeing those turn up. Can’t wait to see what else she’s been cooking up for our heroes!
S – how could you possibly forget about the flying monkeys!! Salem is so the Wicked Witch! She just flies by whale and not broomstick…
C – I think I might just have to commit to a 7 volume re-watch between now and whenever Vol. 8 comes back.
S – I think that’s a good idea!! I’m in! Let’s go nuts volumes 1-7!
