RWBY Vol 7 Chapter 11 Discussion

Gravity

It’s Saturday evening, so that can mean only one thing, Sophie has joined me for our weekly chat. Without further ado, let’s dive in to our RWBY Vol 7 Chapter 11 Discussion. If you’ve stumbled here looking for Chapter 10 discussion (for non-FIRST members this week) you can find that here.

Synopsis

Between Watts (Christopher Sabat), Tyrian (Josh Grelle), and the seemingly endless swarm of Grimm, evil is encroaching on our heroes from all sides. The biggest threat, however, may be hiding where they least expect it.

Well that was an absolute doozy of an episode. Where to start… well obviously with that insane Amity Arena fight between Watts and Ironwood (Jason Rose).

C – is it wrong I am crushing HARD on General Ironwood? Finally seeing him actually fighting, and the same with Watts was absolutely amazing.

S – This was an epic fight seeing how far Ironwood will take himself to achieve his goal of defeating Salem was awesome! I was very team Ironwood at that point! Watts aura depleted but I don’t recall seeing that happen to Ironwood, even though it must have to do to that much damage to his arm.

C – Good point, I don’t remember seeing his aura fizzle out the way we saw Watts and later Tyrian’s do. Unless there’s more to those rings of Watts’s than meets the eye. I loved the way they used the terrain, with Watts hacking the arena to his advantage. Just shows how much of a total badass Ironwood is that he was able to counter on the fly the way he did.

The second fight we were all waiting for, was the trio of Qrow (Jason Liebrecht), Robyn (Christina Vee) and Clover (Christopher Wehkamp) versus Tyrian. Did it go the way you wanted?

C – Kinda yeah. I’m glad that Qrow was the one who got most of the blows in on Tyrian, in payback for their previous fight. Kinda sad that Robyn was the one who finally knocked him out, but I think that was mostly me being greedy on Qrow’s behalf.

S – I think I agree with Clare, for me that fight needed to be mostly Qrow V Tyrian, I think Robyn should have had a bit more focus on her though as we haven’t really seen her fight, she did fire a few arrows at him and a few tactical ones that really helped. I think it was a good call having her be the one to knock him out.

Where do you think Oscar has gone? Do you think he is still Oscar or do you think perhaps Ozpin has taken over at last?

C – seeing the devastation in that room at the end, there’s no way a young farm boy with no Semblance did that. I’m not entirely sure though if it was Oscar/Ozpin or if it was my girl Neo that made that mess.

S – My first thought was that Ozpin is back but could go either way between kidnap by Neo/Cinder or Ozpin ran off somewhere. I can’t think of any reason why Oscar would destroy the robots and escape? Although he did have the Lantern which puts a pretty big target on his back.

C – Cinder DID send Neo after the Lantern at the end of last week, so I think there’s a fair chance Neo is responsible for some of that. Perhaps Ozpin turned up to protect Oscar from her?

So Salem (Jen Taylor) finally made her first appearance of the season, she was her usual mean self and she has finally tipped Ironwood over the edge, what did you think of the way the episode ended?

C – That was pretty epic. I wonder if perhaps she got to Ironwood via the orb before everyone got to his office, or if it was purely the thought of someone being in his office that made him lose his mind.

S– This scene blew my mind, when I saw that creepy grimm bubble and heard those creepy clicky grimm noises I shuddered. I hate that thing. I was very proud of Ruby for standing up to Salem the way she did, which Salem clearly didn’t like, she could have just said those things about Summer just to get to Ruby or she could be the one who killed her, Ruby’s reaction was interesting though, obviously she was upset and you expect that but her eye’s flickering like that made me think of something we discussed last week, could Ruby’s silver eyes destroy the grimm part of Salem?

The other part of this scene being Ironwood losing his bloody mind!! So now we get to see Aceops Vs RWBY?!?! What on earth is Qrow going do? As much as he wants to defeat Salem I really don’t think he is about to let anything happen to his nieces!

C – I am still wondering about that, whether Ruby’s silver eyes could do that, remove the Grimm part of Salem. I still think that everyone is taking the “you can’t kill her” thing too literally. I think Ruby is right, they don’t have to kill her to stop her. And yes, Ruby standing up to Salem was fantastic. I’m not quite sure how Qrow is going to react. I almost wonder if Clover is going to see sense, and not blindly follow orders like the others. Or maybe that is just wishful thinking.

General Ironwood sent Winter (Elizabeth Maxwell) to the Winter Maiden to claim her powers, do you think she got there before Cinder or do you think that is going to be next week’s showdown?

S – Weiss’ face when he told them this, she was so devastated, I can’t help but wonder if that is what we will get to see next week. I’m starting to get the feeling this season is not going to end on a high note and Rooster Teeth will once again be playing with our emotions in the cruel way they do.

C – I definitely think we could be looking at a Cinder V Winter showdown next week. Whether that will be Winter trying to get to the current Maiden before Cinder does, or if it will be two Maidens going at it remains to be seen. Honestly I think I’m more worried about Team RWBY versus the AceOps!

So that is it for our discussion of RWBY Vol 7 Chapter 11 – Gravity. What did you guys think of the episode? Are you as excited for next week as we are? Let us know in the comments.
