Music Monday – Earworm Alert
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last month it’s likely you have heard, or at least seen a meme related to the subject of this Music Monday. The reason we called it Earworm Alert is because once you realise what we are looking at, you’ll more than likely start singing. If you have somehow managed to avoid this cultural phenomenon until now, I’m pretty sure by the end of the post you will also be singing. If you haven’t guessed already, we are talking about the catchy af “Toss a Coin To Your Witcher” from the Netflix series The Witcher.
In case you are unfamiliar with our subject matter, allow me to introduce you to the original, sung by Joey Batey, who plays bard Jaskier in the show. This took place at the end of episode 2 of the show, so if you haven’t watched it yet, there are some teeny spoilers.
Awesome isn’t it? Well the world seems to agree as in the last month artists all over the world have taken to the internets with a massive array of cover versions and remixes in a host of styles. So, that’s what we decided to do for this Music Monday – Earworm Alert; choose our favourites!
Full Metal Witcher
The first cover I heard was a rather brilliant metal version by Dan Vasc.
I just love this one cos not only is he pretty easy on the eye, but he goes HARD on those vocals!
I found another metal version that I had to include just cos of the fact that the singer decided to go all out (well, kinda) and cosplay Geralt as he sang. This is Leo Moracchioli with his rendition!
One Man Army
Spotted this one on twitter and it blew me away. I wasn’t familiar with Peter Hollens before, but safe to say I am a fan now. Watch as this one man acapella army absolutely NAILS the song.
Jaskier, drop the beat
Epic fantasy. Swords and sourcery. Bardic melodies. Of course when you think of these things the natural progression is… dubstep?
Seriously though, Geralt’s “ahhh fuck” before the beat drops is absolute perfection.
And now for something completely different
That’s a LOT of dudes, so just to change things up, have this beautiful female vocal cover from Rachel Hardy.
While she might not go quite as hard on some of those vocals as Jaskier or the metal covers, we just love her voice. And it’s so refreshing.
