Recap: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Hey, World!

  • The Legends are front and center in a bid to save the world. Nora wears taffeta in hell, and still saves John and Ray’s soul. John has an unlikely ally help.

Dumpster in Hell

Nora(Courtney Ford), now a fairy godmother, falls into the same dumpster John did in hell. I think. How does garbage pickup work in hell? Why is there garbage in hell? What qualifies as garbage in hell? Gary(Adam Tsekhman) wished her there to save John and get Ray’s(Brandon Routh) soul. She barges in on a scene I literally had to look away from. Calibraxis(Jason Simpson) is torturing a screaming John(Matt Ryan), and she quickly shows the demon who holds the wand around these parts.

The Fear Begins

Neron(Brandon Routh, again) is being questioned during a Senate hearing. He and the now full on evil Tabitha(Jane Carr) have forced Charlie(Maisie Richardson-Sellers) into taking on the appearance of a senator. Suddenly, he/Charlie turns all Cthulhu, and everyone freaks out. Fear takes over worldwide, and Neron’s plan is falling into place. People start turning against each other, paranoia becomes commonplace. This will fuel an opening to hell for Neron’s demons to come through.

Zari(Tala Ashe) has to recover the now hatched dragon from her younger self. She sees that it is friendly and has been trained by young Zari(Gracelyn Awad Rinke) to dance. The children are friends with her, until a teacher uses the app to call Neron’s minions to come take the dragon. The children become fearful because the teacher is.

Hey, World! Heyworld!

Back on the Waverider, Sara(Caity Lotz) and Ava(Jes Macallan) are trying to figure out how to make the monsters not so monstrous to undo Neron’s fear mongering. If only they could resurrect Nate’s(Nick Zano) father’s(Tom Wilson) theme park. If only they had Mick’s(Dominic Purcell) magic book that he created a living, breathing Garima from. But it’s locked up at the heavily guarded Time Bureau headqu–nevermind, Mick had stolen it and has had it in his possession for awhile. Heading back to the defunct site, Nate raises the park, and gives the monsters a place to be themselves. And they aren’t scary. They just want to live and be loved. The crew decides to put on a show. The broadcast a child had made of the baby dragon had incited happiness. They want to replicate that. Hey, that’ll be easy. Easy peasy, right?

A Bank in Hell Actually Makes Sense

To retrieve Ray’s soul, John and Nora must break into Neron’s bank vault. Fairy godmothering only goes so far in hell world, and they will need help. Realizing he can’t change Astra(Olivia Swann), John now uses her as an ally. She helps them break into the vault, then helps herself to some very famous souls. Souls have coins with their names on them, so that they may be easily traded. Ray has actually been locked in a room with former enemy Vandal Savage(Casper Crump), playing Jenga. Vandal is a changed man(?), and enjoys his time with Ray. They get out without a fight, and now have to get to the upper world to set things straight. John finds out that Ray made a deal with Neron only to stop him killing Nate. This may be the key to saving everything.

The Show Must Go On

Backstage, Mona(Ramona Young) is doing a very competent job of getting everyone ready. But trying to put on a show dressed as the super trinity of Supergirl, Flash, and Arrow(the real ones declined), bad acting and interference changes a happy time into more fear. Young Zari is there, but adult Zari must stay on the ship or be absorbed into the timeline, losing her memories. Nora, John, and Ray’s soul make it back, and John tells Nate about the deal made, and what it means. Tabitha appears with the now huge and mean dragon, and the world seems doomed. Until young Zari recognizes the dragon, and they reunite. The dragon eats Tabitha, reverting to baby form, and the tide begins to turn.

Somebody Has to Die

Neron is still around, and angry. He hasn’t been defeated yet, and John rushes him, Loki(Infinity War) style. Neron does a Thanos neck snap, and John drops, dead, to the floor.

But…John was really Nate, and Nate John. Charlie may have the ability to truly shapeshift, but John has the ability to glamour. Since Neron killed Nate, his contract with Ray is null and void, and he must leave Ray’s body. Ray re-enters, and Neron is killed for real this time.

These guys don’t sing, unless possessed.

His soul watching from above, Nate sits with his father, talking about life and reconciling. His father begins to sing, and pushes him down into his body. He possesses poor Mick again, and leads the crowd in song. The love fuels the staff left behind by Tabitha, and John uses it to revive Nate.

It gets sad here in a second…

Zari

Zari left the ship, and saw Nate die. John explained to her it was Nate’s choice. When he is revived, they hug and kiss. But Zari wasn’t on the ship, and the timeline has been changed. Her world was no longer one of death and prejudice. Her brother lived. And now it was her brother that held the powers of Isis. The hug started with Zari, but ended with her brother Behrad(Shayan Sobhian). Nate gave his life, but Zari paid the price. Recovering as best they can, the group heads out, ready to fix what needs fixing. And boy, will it need fixing because…

Astra Releases Evil Back Into the World

Astra frees the evil souls she collected back to the world of the living, saying that everyone should get a second chance…

Thoughts on Hey, World

  • The gang all got such a great moments this episode.
  • Nora in her dress was perfection. Emmy worthy acting by Courtney.
  • Of course Mick already had the book!
  • Loved the Legends cosplaying as the Big Three. It got really meta there for a minute.
  • ZAAAARIIIIII
  • I admit, I had two knuckle biting Constantine moments this episode. As Matt had said that(as of January, during Wizard World New Orleans) his contract with the show expired at the end of this season, I was fooled by the glamour, too, Neron.
  • Ogres can sing!
  • Púca(Devyn Dalton) sighting! Love that thing.
  • Great to see Daniel Cudmore’s Minotaur again.
  • Who knew everyone knew the words to James Taylor songs?
  • Baby Dragon, doo doo doo.
  • I’m surprised Matt Ryan didn’t sing. The guy actually has some pipes.
  • I really liked Mona in this episode. The scene when she pushes Gary away made me laughsnort.
  • Again…Zaaari.
  • The Monitor(LaMonica Garrett) in the crowd with popcorn, though. Did he buy it? Because the money is in concessions, not the show…Did he stop off before picking up The Green Arrow for the upcoming Crisis, or after?
  • Loved seeing Tabitha biting it.
  • Some of the souls Astra re-released into the world include Stalin, Caligula, and John Wayne Gacy.
  • Can’t wait for this show to return; hopefully with John Constantine in tow, and more of Zari in some form or another.
