Legends of Tomorrow: Nip/Stuck

  • A possessed Ray(Brandon Routh) and captive Constantine(Matt Ryan) travel through time, with the Waverider hot on their tail.
  • Gary(Adam Tsekhman) and his nipple are the man and possessed nipple we need right now.
  • Ok, it is mostly the nip.
  • IT IS 99 PERCENT THE NIP.
  • Mick(Dominic Purcell) ursurps Sara’s(Caity Lotz) orders and puts the crew in danger
  • The crew plays a game of…cards.
  • Constantine meets the First of His Name(and face)
  • Nate(Nick Zano) and Zari(Tala Ashe) find a way to keep the dragon egg warm
  • Damn, there’s a lot of cool Game of Thrones type intrigue(with a Legend-ary twist) going on in this ep…
  • Spoilers

The Donner Pass, B.C.

Possessed Ray(from hereon in called Neron) takes Constantine to the very cold Donner’s Pass several thousand years before the Donner party was forced to eat each other, so I don’t know what the heck it is called then/now.

Trench coats aren’t rated for post ice age Sierra Mountains, John.

The bitter cold is getting to Constantine, and that is Neron’s plan. Trench coats aren’t made for the bitterness of a Sierra Mountain winter. He is hoping a weakened Constantine will use his powers and enable Neron to bring his love Tabitha back to this dimension.

Legends of Tomorrow - Nip/Stuck

John, being defiant. Such a strong character I hope we get to see more of in the DCU

He uses a knife to cut his own(Ray’s- I know what I said earlier about not saying Ray, but we’re dealing with time travel and possession here, people) throat, but Constantine turns the knife into a feather. Neron smirks, knowing that the Waverider has locked onto John’s specific magic signal, and the crew shows up to save the two.

Legends of Tomorrow - Nip/Stuck

Just before Mick orders Gideon to fire at the pair.

Mick overrides Sara’s command, and orders the ship to fire, saying that when a crew member turns, the best thing to do is take them out and move on. Mick has issues, but don’t cancel your subscription to him just yet, y’all.

Ava/Lance, I Mean Avalanche!

Neron transports Constantine and his bad self just as the ship fires, and it causes an avalanche to overtake and trap the ship. Sara remains calm, shuts down the non essential functions on the ship and calls Ava(Jes Macallan). But why isn’t Ava answering?

Legends of Tomorrow - Nip/Stuck

Gary is all the man we need right now.

Gary Green is all the man we need.

So…Gary Green is all the man we need.

Yes…Gary Green is all the man we need.

Gary Green is all the man we need.

Sorry… don’t know what got into me.

To distract Ava from the Legend’s plight, the now possessed Gary insists on staff reviews. Everyone leaves his reviews saying the same thing; bet you can’t guess what…and Ava is the first.

Nora(Courtney Ford) and Mona(Ramona Young) figure out what is going on and split up. Except Gary gets to Nora and Nora gets to Mona.

Locked in the magical creature holding room, Mona despairs, until she realizes she has the power of the Kaupe. Pretending to demur, she tells Mona she is ready for her review.

Cards That Save the Crew

Now cold and stranded, thanks to the non essential programs being shut off of the ship, the crew looks to keep warm and occupied. Nate and Zari use one of the first ways mankind used-but it was for the sake of the dragon egg. Definitely.

Charlie(Maisie Richardson-Sellers) transforms into Mick and tries to make up with Sara, until real Mick comes in. It all actually works out, and Sara realizes that she needs to work as a team. She turns on all the ship’s systems, warming everyone up, and they play the previously seen Cards To Save the Timeline.

King Konstantyn

Legends of Tomorrow - Nip/Stuck

Preparing to meet the King.

Nope, that’s not a misspelling. Neron takes Constantine to see his ancestor, the ruthless King Konstantyn(Matt Ryan in a dual role). Who also looks a lot(okay, EXACTLY) like John. King Konstantyn is also a nasty piece of work, sending even innocent magical creatures to hell. John tries to reason with his ancestor, but nope. He gets knocked out and tied up along with Neron and an innocent woodland creature.  Neron knows that John will open the portal he needs to bring back the mysterious Tabitha to protect the Phooka trapped with them.

Constantine faces his ancestor. Does he like what he sees?

Getaway

The crew’s playing cards, being a family, when Gideon(voiced by Amy Louise Pemberton) announces that the heat from the fully functioning ship has melted the snow and loosened the ship enough to free them. All hands on deck(no card pun intended) to find Constantine and Neron…

John Constantine and His Destiny

John is in dire straits. He doesn’t fear hell, believing knowing that he has long been destined to go there. But John doesn’t want one more innocent life going along for the ride with him. He stops King Konstantyn, slicing off his arm with his own sword(does this make it Matt Ryan in a duel role now?), just as the Waverider appears. Neron has waited for this, and Tabitha(Jane Carr) is freed. Dear God, that’s Tabitha? But John has a plan. He’s going to save Ray, and knows what he has to do. He jumps into the portal, sending himself to hell.

Mona Nips the Nipple

Legends of Tomorrow - Nip/Stuck

Mona, pre niptual.

Mona is taken in for her review. Part of this review is looking at Gary’s possessed nipple, now an evil, hypnotic eye. Mona transforms into a kaupe, gives Gary the what for, then bites off his Nipple of Evil. She bangs Nora and Ava’s heads together, bringing them out of their nipnotization, saving the day there.

John lands in a hell-dumpster, and we see a giant, burning hell city looming in the distance. Come on, Conjob, we’re rooting for you.

Thoughts on “Nip/Stuck”

  • I can’t thank the Legends of Tomorrow writers enough for really sticking the landing on the Constantine mythos.  For example:
  1. Kon sten tyn / Constantine is a character in Arthurian Legend, and was brilliantly made into John’s ancestor in Hellblazer Annual #1.
  2. The Hellblazer Konstantyn/ Kon Sten Tyn was missing his right arm
  3. The link to the “Dangerous Habits” storyline above
  4. The reference to his ancestry not being that great was an inference to his abusive father.
  5. There’s a lot more, but I would seriously recommend you read the very ADULT ONLY Vertigo early Hellblazer issues-you can find them in trade paperback form. Read up to issue #249 for essential Constantine. Anything else after that is fanfiction, in my personal opinion.

Mostly Non-Constantine Thoughts on “Nip/Stuck”

  • Since Legends is very timey wimey, could the Arrow episode where John is mentioned being in hell in season 4, episode 5 be what is happening now, or is that line no longer canon? I don’t think John goes to hell on a regular basis.
  • Speaking of timey wimey, love the Cards to Save the Timeline and the manual Ray wrote out in case of…
  • Finally, Nate and Zari. FINALLY.
  • John really likes feathers. Peacock, phoenix, raven…
  • Gary is hot when he is possessed oozes confidence. Damn, Gary.
  • The Phooka is adorable and I want one. Cuter than Beebo. There, I said it.
  • Since Mona nipped the nip, is it no longer evil? Will she have indigestion from hell? Maybe some Alka Seltzer in holy water will help.
  • Charlie trying to smooth things over was sweet. She is so cute.
  • Mona got meta again, but not as much, and I actually enjoyed her playing a bit of a Nancy Drew.
  • We hate paperwork, too, Nora. I feel your pain.
  • Was the eye nipple an homage to this deleted What We Do in the Shadows scene?
  • Nate playing music to the unhatched dragon, and naming it. What a softie. Zari and Nate are gonna be such good dragon parents. Makes sense, as they ride the wind, and hoard metal…
