Love, Victor : The Morning After Round Table Review

We are back again with another round table review for Episode 8 “The Morning After” from our beloved show “Love, Victor”. Let’s see what’s gonna happen this time. Are you guys ready for some more Creakwood drama? Joining me (Rike) on this round table review are Serena, Lena and Jen. Let’s do this!

Love, Victor : The Morning After Synopsis

After a confrontation with Isabel (Ana Ortiz), tensions rise with Benji (George Sear) and Victor (Michael Cimino). Mia (Rachel Hilson) learns troubling news.

Your opinion about this episode in general?

S: I’m not sure how to feel about this episode. A lot happened in a very short time and I’m not happy with how this ended. I still feel like scenarios are being set up that I am not a fan of.

J: It was alright. Definitely wasn’t my favorite episode, but to be honest there was no episode that I completely disliked. Like Serena said, a lot of things happened within a short time and things felt a little bit rushed. Like as if they were trying to push a lot of content and plots before the end of the season.

L: Sht is really starting to hit the fan now! *laughs At this point I just hope some stuff will get tied up before the season ends.

R: Why do I feel like this season is about Victor and Benji running from one argument to the next one. Damn. Just take a deep breath guys. However, Mia’s speech and Isabel telling the priest off were making this episode a bit extra special. Same with Adrian’s (Mateo Fernandez) reaction to his brother being gay. His French toast sentence is still in my mind to be honest.

Do you think Benji’s reaction to Victor spilling his secret to Rahim (Anthony Keyvan) was justified or not?

J: I agree with Lena. Victor definitely shouldn’t have told Rahim and it honestly is kind of sad how many trust conflicts there seem to be currently between Victor and Benji in general that they definitely need to sort out. I understand that Victor felt the need to open up and talk to someone, however you don’t just go around telling people’s deepest secrets like that, especially not before properly having a talk with your boyfriend first to try and sort things out yourself.

L: Victor shouldn‘t have told Rahim. While I am not sure Benji would have been as annoyed at Victor telling someone else, compared to a new gay friend, he still should not have told anyone. Benji felt insecure in himself and being fully truthful with Victor, because he felt Victor had enough to handle his own stuff. At least that is how I perceive the situation. I understand that Victor felt he wanted to talk about it, since he and Benji ended that evening on not good terms and so he couldn‘t have talked to him about it. There probably wouldn‘t have been any person appropriate to talk to about it, in Benji’s eyes.

R: Like I already said. They’re running from one fight into another one. Some of them are truly unnecessary in my opinion. But we also have to remind ourselves that they’re still some 16 year old teenagers after all. They still have some things to learn and are allowed to make mistakes. However, this doesn’t mean that you should talk to the next best person and tell him a pretty big secret from your boyfriend. I mean, Victor and Rahim still don’t know each other that well. Yeah, sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone who’s not your best friend or family or whatever but still. Rahim just had to say that he won’t say anything and that’s it? To sum it up, they both made some mistakes in the past which could have been avoidable. But that’s the teenagers life, right?

S: I totally understand that Benji feels betrayed by Victor telling his secret to another man. However I also feel like he didn’t go about the situation well either. If Benji is serious about him and Victor then why did he not show any sign of opening up about his addiction at all? He told Victor about his accident in season 1, but we have a very closed off Benji in season 2 and I also understand Victor’s frustration with the situation.

What do you think about Isabel’s character development so far? Are you surprised that she told the priest off or did you see this one coming?

L: FINALLY! The woman is coming to her senses. Thank the lord, but not the priest. I‘m glad she realised her religion is not automatically believing her son is going to hell or whatever other nonsense. I was hoping and am really glad she is coming around for real now!

R: It was about time and I’m happy that she finally started to change her mind with a BANG! Her telling the priest off was one of my favorite scenes in this episode. “I’m not giving up on God. I’m giving up on you.” That’s what we’ve been waiting for the whole time and it finally happened and I’m sure Adrian’s reaction also made her think about everything again. Thank you.

S: I’m so glad she finally is starting to see the light. Isabel has been annoying me so much this season and seeing how she is finally willing to defend Victor against other people that refuse to accept him is such a huge step in the right direction and it’s long overdue as well.

J: That honestly was one of my favorite parts in this episode. It made me happy that there still seems to be some hope left for Isabel and that maybe not all of her senses are lost. I did not see that one coming at all, however I was truly and deeply hoping for it.

Mia and her dad’s relationship still seems to be a bit more cracked after all, especially now that he took the offer even though Mia told him not to. Your thoughts on their father and daughter relationship? Do you think she’ll forgive him again?

R: After Mia gave this emotional speech to her dad I really thought he would change his mind for the first time in his whole life. Guess I was wrong. Sadly. I was so frustrated and angry when he took the job after all. Like how dare you? Your own daughter just unburdened herself to you and that’s all you’ve got left right now? You truly don’t care at all. Truly wanted to punch him in this scene.

S: I don’t think she will. Like Mia said in this episode she never asked much from her father because the abandonment from her mom hurt her enough to scare her. I’m sad that their relationship is the way it is, I feel like Mia is a nice girl and she deserves better. I’m glad she has Andrew (Mason Gooding) to help her, but I feel like it won’t really get better for her unless Lake (Bebe Wood) suddenly offers the “You are like my sister, come live with us” line that happens in every show where this situation happens.

J: I think she will definitely forgive her dad eventually, however I’m still upset that he took the job. He knew how much staying meant to Mia and through how much his daughter would go through if he pulled through and accepted.

L:  As sad as it is he never really did consider her in his decision making, not even now. Even when she explicitly tells and almost begs him not to uproot her he still will again. Their relationship seemed good enough, when you initially met them, but keeps cracking more and more. I‘m just glad Mia has Andrew now, who truly will stand by her! And Lake too ofc!

“Between my mom and the break-up, this week has been hell. But last night was, like, more fun than I’ve had in… forever.” This sounds quite promising but Felix (Anthony Turpel) still kinda friendzoned Pilar after the evening they spent together. Your thoughts? Do you think Pilar will give up trying now?

S: I hope she does. I love both characters, but I definitely prefer them as friends. She has a high school crush and I can’t blame her with a guy like Felix, but I really hope she won’t try to force a date out of him.

J: Like I said before, I definitely am here for them and still hope that it may grow into more. That being said, I am also fine with them being friends and the fact alone that she was able to distract Felix for a bit and made him smile is what counts in the end.

L: He is just being honest. I appreciate that about his character a lot. Pilar and Felix have a relationship built on honesty and unconditional support. It doesn‘t even matter that she feels more for him. She would still always do her best to be there for him, when he needs it. Some people say you should date your best friend and if that is true… smirks

R: I’m always here for them whether it’s gonna be as friends or girlfriend and boyfriend. They’ll figure it out and make the right decision in the end. But no matter the circumstances they’ll always have each other’s back. That’s what I love about them. Their friendship game is getting stronger and stronger this season.

Your score on this episode:

J: 7.5

L: 8.5

R: 8

S: 8
