Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro “Senpai Your Body Seems So Stiff / Let’s Go For It Senpai” Review

Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro “Senpai Your Body Seems So Stiff / Let’s Go For It Senpai” is the tenth episode of the Nagatoro anime. Breaking tactic with episode 9 a little. This episode introduces a new character: the art club President.

Senpai, Your Body Seems So Stiff

Senpai is part of a marathon. Not that he wants to be. Whilst walking home that evening, Nagatoro brings up how unathletic he is and offers to train him during the weekend. He’s totally against it but he knows Nagatoro will get what she wants so plays along.

The weekend comes and he’s being made to run by Nagatoro. He only speeds up when he focuses on Nagatoro’s super skimpy running outfit. Eventually he runs out of puff though and halfway through gives up. Nagatoro naturally bullies him about constantly giving up until he gets so annoyed with her he runs anyway just to get away from the name calling. After training Nagatoro points out that it’s good to do stretches to make sure his muscles don’t ache the next day. Whilst doing so she helps a stiff as hell senpai try and be more flexible but they’re both seen by a passing Sakura. She just makes a Power Rangers joke and the show moves on.

Let’s Go For It Senpai

Senpai is in his haven, the art room, when Nagatoro walks in. Having talked to himself all the time she knows he needs a model to draw so she offers. He refuses but she insists, saying he’s OK to draw her as a cat-girl but as she is. Using his manga sketch against him. A costly mistake though, as he pulls a trick on her and accepts as long as she dresses up exactly like that picture. Thinking it’s impossible to find such a costume he thinks he’s won. Not so. Nagatoro rushes in to be his model in the cat suit, she’s also joined by Sakura, Yoshi and Gamo. Turns out she got someone in the needlework club to make it for her.

Whilst this is going on a conversation starts up about the school festival. Senpai has a flashback to the last festival and being part of it under the art club President. She’s stern and no-nonsense and left the art club in charge of him after the festival. He recognises her footsteps and hides everyone in the storage room. The President shows up and says she’s heard rumours of some unsavoury characters being seen hanging around. Having left the art club in his hands she holds Senpai responsible and threatens to shut down the club as she doesn’t think he’s taking it seriously.

Nagatoro and co bust out and challenge her. Saying he himself will hold an art exhibition at the festival. The president agrees and suggest that during the school vote, if his exhibition gets more than hers then she won’t shut down the club.

Review

This episode was so cute! Whilst not explicitly said it’s clear all of Nagatoro’s friends see Senpai as just another pal now. But know not to tease him. Whilst they do sometimes it’s definitely died down a bit and become more of Nagatoro’s thing. The fact that they know to back off now is telling. Senpai is hers and she is Senpai’s. No discussion.

It’s also not said but pretty clear as they all jump out to defend Senpai and none of them are shocked when Nagatoro throws around insults to the President as a way of protecting him. Nor do they tease her for noticing and mentioning how hard he always works. Constantly drawing. It comes as a surprise to Senpai but not to Nagatoro’s friends.

Senpai now has friends that’ll defend him and Nagatoro that’ll do anything for him. Whether he’s noticed all that is anyone’s guess but the relationships are blossoming and it’s lovely to see.
