Tokyo 24 Ward “Confessions From A Mask” Review

Tokyo 24 Ward “Confessions From A Mask” is the tenth episode of the Tokyo 24 Ku anime. This episode starts a while after episode 9, where Tsuzuragawa is in the hospital recovering from her wounds, whilst the rest of the 24th ward show their true colours and start to become more and more radicalized.

Finally The Truth

Whilst other political issues go on, mostly by design, this episode sees the three friends finally end up on the same page. Now they all know the true form of the KANAE system and at least two of them have rejected it completely, though in very very different ways. Shuuta is left to decide. This was the first thing that grabbed me, I loved how this episode showed both Ran and Kou resolve that they intend to destroy Asumi’s connection to the system but their ways of doing it are so different, it ties in perfectly with their characterisation. Kou is level headed, determined to take the system out from the inside, outsmarting the guardians of the system. Whilst Ran is seen losing his temper and making a point that the system has to be dragged down, once again Shuu is undecided.

Other than that, this episode was definitely on the slow side but not in a boring way, the same as last episode it worked as an info dump but was paced well enough that it never became too slow. Unfortunately this is it’s Achilles heel though, two info dump episodes in a row is a little too much, even for the most hardcore fan and I feel like that’s gonna hurt it. However I do have hope for episode 11 as things are setting up to be very very interesting.
