Combatants Will Be Dispatched “The Con Artist Marriage Girl” Review

Combatants Will Be Dispatched “The Con Artist Marriage Girl” is the seventh episode of the Combatants anime. Continuing on from Agent 6’s demotion in episode 6 we see him work with his team. But outside of the military. Meaning he can pretty much do what he wants. Things aren’t looking great for the kingdom though, as the Princess hints at.

Agent 6’s new friend

Agent 6 opens the episode by ranting at Astaroth that they need him there instead of back in Tokyo. Obviously he won’t say why (he needs the evil points) but makes a whole host of excuses. Astaroth tries to barter with him with promises of his favourite series Konosuwa. A clear nod to Konosuba. He’s begs for some mutants or something to be sent over cos he’s mad that they knew he was likely to fail the quest and wants backup. Astaroth refuses though, stating that the heroes of his world have risen up and are fighting Kisaragi.

Suddenly, Agent 6 gets his mutant sent to him in the form of Tiger Man. A literal Tiger. They spar and Agent 6 breaks Snow’s sword in the process. After learning about it and having a break down over her precious sword, Tiger Man gives her his. It’s different, more like a classical katana but she loves it anyway. Later that day as they’re having lunch in the tavern, Alice mentions that she’s doing research on this worlds ecosystem. Interested in the money Alice will pay her Snow goes with them to find out what the different creatures in the forest are, the creatures that the meat comes from.

Whilst there Agent 6 panics and runs away from Snow and Alice. He comes across a monster called Mokemoke who he’s scared of at first but soon realises he’s actually gentle. They make a very short lived friendship as Snow kills the mokemoke in one swipe, thinking she’s saving Agent 6. They eat the mokemoke meat at the tavern that night, except for Agent 6 who’s still mourning his friend. When Alice and Grimm get into an argument as Alice takes Grimm’s ability to revive the dead as an affront to science.

Raising The Dead

Grimm sets up a summoning mat outside the town and proceeds to summon a demon. She initially goes to use a bunny as a sacrifice but nobody but Alice has the heart to kill it. So she uses a bit of meat she had tucked… somewhere. Alice spends a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out how the trick works as she’s not fooled one bit. Whilst Agent 6 wishes for a harem in exchange for his soul. The demon eventually gets annoyed at Alice asking for it to produce things it can’t and unplug their toilet and leaves.

They all leave pretty miserable. Agent 6 has no harem. Grimm has had her god insulted. But Alice is fine, she uses the encounter as data for what demons in that world can and can’t do. The episode also has a short clip of the princess looking forlorn as she says they’ll run out of water at that rate. But it’s not expanded on.

Review

Well, I loved this episode. The old gang are back and doing what they do best. And now the truth is out about Agent 6 he can just be his disgusting self again. Ironically enough, now that he’s free to be evil, he’s choosing more often not to be. More and more, especially in this episode he’s showing humanity and kindness. Obviously only about 40% at best. He is still Agent 6, but it’s a clear personality change for him.

The only gripe I’d have with this episode is the introduction of Tiger Man. Yes mutants are mentioned a bit in the scene before but he just kinda shows up. Outta nowhere. Whether that was intentional and meant to be funny or a lot of the scene got cut I dunno. But the whole scene felt like it should’ve been in another episode.

Overall, loved it.
