To Your Eternity “Our Goals” Review

To Your Eternity “Our Goals” is the sixth episode of the To Your Eternity anime. Continuing from episode 5 Fushi is left to wander alone but eventually he meets Pioran. The elder lady. Together they have an adventure and Fushi makes leaps and bounds in his ability to communicate. However, not all is as it seems. Something’s going on and Fushi is the key to it.

Learning to be human

Fushi begins the episode by wandering around as a wolf for a long while. Becoming the boy sometimes and becoming March so he can climb tress for food as she’s so agile. Eventually he comes across Pioran and they don’t exactly start on good terms. Fushi walks off and she follows but can’t keep up, having no understanding of what it is to be human he makes no attempt to help or stop for her.

Eventually though, whilst he’s March. He grabs some fruit for her as she’s starving. They travel together until they see an old map. Pioran goes to draw this map on a piece of paper when boy Fushi steals her pen and tries writing. She realises he wants to learn to write so she starts teaching him, on the way to the town. She also teaches him other things and eventually he learns to stumble whole sentences out, even ask simple questions.

Fighting Another Immortal?

Their parade is rained on when they get across the land though as they’re attacked by a mysterious creature that can steal Fushi’s forms. It steals the boy first and Fushi is forced to go into wolf form. In this form, a mysterious stranger who calls himself Fushi’s “Maker” tells him that is his enemy. Fushi goes and attacks but he’s killed in wolf form. Then he becomes Oniguma-Sama and is killed as him too. March is all that’s left. Thanks to her high agility she’s able to avoid the creature’s attacks. Fushi goes to get the core inside the creatures abdomen that holds all of Fushi’s stolen forms and will kill the creature. He’s able to as March and after a tense battle, it’s downed by March Fushi.

His forms are returned to him as well as his memories of those forms when he squishes the core. That’s when the mysterious stranger that can stop time and it seems only Fushi can see or hear calls himself Fushi’s “Maker.” Not long after Fushi as a boy and Pioran arrive at her lover’s house. He’s an intellectual so she’s hoping he can teach Fushi more and learn more about Fushi too. They arrive and the episode ends on Gugu sweeping up, a new charcayer we’ll see more of in the next episode.

Review

I loved this episode! The Maker, whether good or bad is clearly on the side of helping Fushi learn more about being human and the value of life. He encourages him to fight for the thing he lost and is pleased when Fushi does so wildly. Only time will tell if he’s in this for himself or to genuinely save the world.

Fushi learning more and more and being able to communicate, kinda, now is my favourite thing about this episode. He’s clearly channelling alot of personality traits and worldviews from the people he’s become and spent time with. March’s dream of becoming an adult is now his dream. He wishes to do so by learning. He’s becoming self aware enough that he knows he needs to learn things to grow. That’s progress and it’s lovely to see. I wonder what his next big step will be? Cannot wait to see more, what a fantastic episode!
