Attack On Titan “Savagery” Review Part 1

Attack On Titan “Savagery” is the 73rd episode of Attack On Titan. Unlike episode 72 we finally see some action here. Especially with Levi!

Note: only part of the episode was aired due to an earthquake in Japan. More news is expected tomorrow. For now we only have the partial episode.

Eren, Mikasa, Armin and Gabi

The episode begins where the last left off. Eren walks in on Mikasa, Armin and Gabi and sits with them around the table. Telling them he needs to talk to them. He proceeds to pretty much just slander Armin and Mikasa. Stating he believes that most of Armin’s personality isn’t really his anymore considering he has Bertholdt’s memories and memories make us who we are. Eren then argues that Mikasa is a slave to her Ackerman heritage. Never being able to resist a direct order as the Ackerman family were bred to protect the King and she has no choice in the matter. He then goes far enough as to say he always hated Mikasa but never knew why until now.

Armin goes to punch Eren because, let’s face it, he’s being a dick. But Mikasa instinctively slams him into the table. She instantly backs off once she realises what she’s done. Giving Armin a chance to smack Eren around the chops. Poor Armin does get his backside handed to him in the fight that ensues but his resolve never wavers. He calls Eren a slave to his own desire for freedom, enough to hurt Mikasa, which clearly ticks Eren off. The scene ends with Eren planning to take all 3 to Shiganshina.

Levi

Meanwhile in the forest. Poor Levi is still babysitting Zeke. He makes a plan to turn a random soldier into a Titan and let them eat Zeke as a way to keep Zeke from Eren. Unbeknownst to him though, Zeke spiked the wine all the soldiers with him had been drinking with his spinal fluid months ago. Zeke runs off and uses his “voice” to turn all of Levi’s comrades into abnormal titans. He’s forced to kill them all and so goes after Zeke. Levi swiftly hands Zeke a big fat L once again and that’s where the episode cuts off…

Review

This is definitely much more forward paced than the previous episodes. You really do get the sense that the characters are being set up perfectly for where they’re going. And where they’ll end up. I’m pretty certain it’s gonna be full speed ahead from here, even the information dump episodes will be interesting as the show seems to be revealing more and more. Problem is, it’s hard to know what’s a red herring and what isn’t. I don’t believe Eren means anything he says, even if there is some truth there. He’s obviously trying to push his friends away so they don’t get caught in the crossfire of what he knows he has to do.

Saying that, Eren clearly has genocide on the mind. His mind isn’t going to be changed and he’s going to go to any extreme to win his and humanity’s freedom.
