Review
Episode 64 was incredibly exposition based unlike this weeks episode. There are some moments of exposition, like when Lord Tybur explains his plan to use himself as bait to discover who the secret Titan is. And to weed out the Paradis sympathisers in their own Military. This was a genius bit of pacing, as it’s shown right after his death. Giving his death a whole new meaning, Eren really has played himself here. He can’t be surprised when there’s pushback.
Meanwhile we have Porco who is desperately trying to save Gabi and Udo, the latter being crushed under hoardes of panicking people.
This episode is almost borderline genius. Of course, as is usual, the story is told 3rd person-ish and Eren is still very much the main character. But it’s told so gradually and so well that, for once, Eren 100% looks like the bad guy. The monster everyone thought he was. Even though as an audience we know the crew must have more to their plan, it’s difficult to justify the horrors Eren commits.
There are similar set ups to how Gabi reacts to things and how Eren used to react to the Titans when they attacked in episode 1. Even the shots are similar, which is a genius move for what’s coming up.
The action scenes are exciting but not too much that it becomes two dimensional. You’re always aware of a bigger picture and always looking for it.
I just cannot wait for episode 66. The foreshadowing that went on in this episode was off the charts and I really wanna see how they handle certain things.
