Attack On Titan “Memories Of The Future” Review

Attack On Titan “Memories Of The Future” is the seventy ninth episode of the Attack On Titan anime. It follows Eren’s trip to the Path’s with Zeke in episode 78. Where Zeke finally realises Eren’s true power and starts putting together his true plan. All from the point of view of their father.

A Father’s Sins

Grisha’s memories are explored by Eren and Zeke. Much to Eren’s annoyance, Zeke is clearly trying to play mind games here and it’s actually very funny when it’s turned on him. The episode shifts from worrying for Eren’s safety and wondering how he’s going to get out of the situation. To emotional and shocking as Eren shifts the gears when he has Grisha reveal the Attack Titan’s special power.

Zeke has a ton of up and down moments in this episode and it’s quite interesting to see how he copes with Eren and what he’s seeing. He realises something isn’t right quite early on but just shrugs it off, his arrogance getting the better of him. Eren it seems is playing 3D chess here now as he flips everything on it’s head from seemingly nowhere. He was the one who orchestrated everything from the beginning, it’s just that no one. Not even him knew it until recently. The Attack Titan’s power to see into the future giving Grisha a moment at the end of the episode to see what Eren plans on doing and telling him how sorry he is and that there’s no escape for him now.

Finishing on a single frame of Eren still chained but looking determined as ever just summarized everything. He is in charge. He always has been.

I loved it. I know I said last episode was the strongest but emotionally this is the strongest so far. It’s directed so masterfully it hits every single beat without question. I hate to use an old adage but the words “emotional rollercoaster” come to mind.
