Attack On Titan “Night Of The End” Review

Attack On Titan “Night Of The End” is the eighty-fourth episode of the Attack On Titan anime. Taking a step back from the action in episode 83. This episode sets up the foundations for the new alliance, working together to save the world, they have to have a chat by the fire first though.

Forever Enemies

The whole episode works on one simple principle: no-one is squarely to blame for the Rumbling. Both Paradis and Marley have done things wrong and looking into the past isn’t going to guarantee anyone a safe future. Everyone works hard to make the alliance work but it’s not only difficult but almost impossible in the eyes of some, like Jean.

The episode also begins by showing a flashback of Hanji planning things with Jean. For a while he goes back to being who he was, selfish and wanting nothing more than a comfortable life with a family, even at the cost of other’s lives and to be honest partly Jean will always be that way but that isn’t a bad thing. It’s what makes his an interesting character but obviously he changes, likely due to the guilt he knows he’d feel with Marco’s death always on his conscious.

The whole campfire scene is tense, with enemies not likely to be friends or even want to no matter how much they want to save the world. It’s not said but it’s clear that the new alliance is weak at best, hanging barely by the slimmest of threads but people’s determination to stop mass genocide and bring a peace they’ve never known keeps it alive. For now.
