Wonder Egg Priority “Colourful Girls” Review
Wonder Egg Priority “Colourful Girls” is the fourth episode of the Wonder Egg series. Again, like episode 3, we’re introduced to a new character. This time it’s Sawaki Momoe. Sawaki turns out to be Ai’s teacher’s niece. This episode is unique as it is the only episode to be a continuation from the previous one.
Plot
Ai is still with the twins trying to defend them against a massively powerful boss. Whilst somewhere else Momoe is protecting a girl who was molested by the monster following her. They both fight. And win their respective battles. With a huge twist on Ai’s part. Still not gonna spoil it.
It’s the moments in the real world with Momoe that the audience find out just why she’s frustrated. Everyone thinks she’s a guy and she doesn’t like it at all. She wants to be feminine but feminine things don’t suit her.
At the end of the episode Momoe bumps into Ai who asks if she’s OK as she’s in tears. Momoe asks her what she looks like to her. Ai answers “A crying girl.” And it’s clear this means the world to Momoe. To be seen as feminine without having to correct anyone.
The episode ends with all the friends making their way somewhere together. It’s then that Momoe reveals her full name. Which shocks the hell out of Ai.
Review
This is definitely one of the episodes I would argue has pacing issues. The cuts between Momoe’s fight and Ai’s are clean enough. But everything else tends to fall in line so quickly it’s hard not to see it as a coincidence. But even with that being said. It’s still a fantastic episode. The action is tense and fast paced and the genuine kindness Ai shows people now that she’s more confident makes me love her with each passing episode.
This show is good even with it’s weakest episodes. That’s how good it is.
