Wonder Egg Priority “The Girl Flautist” Review

Wonder Egg Priority “The Girl Flautist” is the fifth episode in the Wonder Egg series. This one is more of a filler episode. With all of the action coming from Neiru and mainly only her. It focuses more on the girls’ relationships and subsequent tensions between them.

Plot

Half of the episode is shown from Neiru’s perspective as she goes out and fights. And the other half is focused on all of the girls together. It starts off fine enough. Though there is tension between Neiru and Rika. It’s quickly brushed off. During a visit to Ai’s house Rika suggests that perhaps the reason Koito killed herself was because Mr. Sawaki was abusing her. Even Neiru agrees that it could be a possibility. But Momoe is having none of it and defends her Uncle.

Wonder Egg Priority Rika's suggestion

Ai however is in two minds as she remembers walking in on Sawaki comforting Koito once and they clearly look a little too comfortable. She claims there’s no other way than to just ask her herself when she saves her. Meanwhile, as the girls are together in the dream world. They spend the day bowling and playing arcade games. During a quiet moment Rika asks, pretty bluntly, why they’re even continuing to fight. They have each other now and the pain of losing the person they’re fighting for is healing over time so why bother risking their lives? Obviously this is enough to make Neiru become suspicious of Rika again. But she does raise a good point.

The episode ends with them all going to get new eggs from the machine after some gentle prodding from Uru-Acca.

Review

Like previously mentioned this is definitely a filler episode. Though it’s no less thrilling. Neiru’s action scenes were extraordinary and she’s clearly a well established fighter. She is calm, cool and collected in a fight. Unlike all the others who throw themselves in without worry.

You could say this is the episode that leads to the odds being so high next episode. It doesn’t make it obvious but there’s always a feeling that the writers wrote such things for a reason.
