Wonder Egg Priority “A Bare Knife” Review

Wonder Egg Priority “A Bare Knife” is the third instalment in the Wonder Egg series. And just like episode 2 we meet a new character. Her name is Kawai Rika. And she almost immediately makes herself look like a scrounger by asking Ai to lend her money for the egg gatcha because she forgot her wallet.

Overview

Whilst Ai is getting closer and closer to Neiru she meets Rika. Neiru is immediately sceptical of her telling Ai to keep a watch on her. Rika follows Ai home and almost immediately becomes like a leech. Sharing her food, drink and basically being a loud nuisance throughout the entire visit. Ai’s mother is just glad she’s got a friend though so it goes unnoticed by her.

Wonder Egg Priority Rika

Whilst sleeping over both Ai and Rika end up in the same place in the dream world. It’s here that it’s explained to Ai that the form the world takes is dependant on the person with the strongest emotions. Ai and Rika break their eggs at the same time and end up hatching twin fangirls.

Whilst fighting the girls’ trauma it becomes obvious to Ai that Rika is nowhere near as boisterous and obnoxious as she seems. She opens up about being an idol and the girl she wants to save was a big fan of hers. Even going so far as to spend all the money she had on her. Rika was harsh and basically told her to get a grip and now feels responsible for her death.

Review

This was definitely an episode that’ll split people. I took an immediate shine to Rika, then hated her, then loved her again. This episode deals with serious topics like, self harm, suicide and the pressure alot of idols are put under.

I’m trying not to post spoilers but I will say this. At the end of the episode Rika was my favourite character in the entire show. The writers are so good at writing complex and deep individuals that you almost forget these are just teenagers.

Definitely one that piques the curiosity.
