Wonder Egg Priority “A Story No One Knows” Review

Wonder Egg Priority “A Story No One Knows” is the ninth episode of the Wonder Egg Series. Unlike episode eight, which was a recap episode, this episode moves the plot along massively.

Neiru invites the girls over to what they think is a friendly get together at her house. It soon reveals almost everything about Neiru and why she is the way she is.

Plot

Neiru starts the tour of her home by telling the girls that she’s technically got no parents. She is a child genius created by artificial insemination of people who are in the top percentage for intellectual skill.

She shows them technology that her company has spearheaded. Technology that can record Neiru’s dreams and show them. Meaning others can see what she does in her Egg World.

Neiru reveals that she has a friend that’s in a vegetative state. Who was a genius like her but was obsessed with pushing the limits on death and what happens before people die. Her name is Kotobuki. Neiru hints that this is the girl that she’s trying to bring back but it’s not altogether clear as she never refers to her as her “sister” here. Kotobuki makes Neiru promise her that she’ll turn off her life support when she gets back and make sure no adults get hold of her body.

Meanwhile we cut to Acca and Uru-Acca having a conversation in the egg gatcha land with the woman who works for Neiru. They openly say that if the truth were revealed the girls would fight against them so now they’re looking super suspicious and it’s all kicking off!

Neiru is about to cut off the life support machine when her friends all argue against it. Not understanding why they all have such an issue with it the visit ends there. Ai returns to Neiru, however, and Neiru confides in her. Ai tells her that if she had been clear and told the girls that Kotobuki didn’t want adults to get her body then they’d be much more understanding, even if they disagreed.

The episode ends with the life support machine being switched off and Neiru moving on with her life.

Review

This was. By far. The strongest episode of WEP. It’s made Neiru my second fave of the girls (Rika is still best) but it shows also just how much a genius like Neiru doesn’t know. Just because she’s a genius doesn’t mean she has all the answers and in the end she turns to her friends for guidance.

This new lady who’s working behind Neiru’s back is definitely interesting too. There are 12 episodes and we’re on episode 9. And she hasn’t even hinted at a possible reason or even what it is she’s up to yet. She’s only got 4 episodes to do so!

This was pretty much a flawlessly executed episode. It brought in the issues of death and a person’s right to choose their own death if they wish. A big topic to deal with. And it handles it with tact and grace.

Allltogether I have to say I am now fully invested in what episode 10 will bring.
