V-Wars – ‘Because I Could Not Stop for Death’ Review

Last Sunday, March 7th, we had our weekly watch and tweet party to comment V-Wars 1×03, ‘Because I Could Not Stop for Death’. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check my previous review and the article where I explain the party details! I’m sure you’ll love to join.

SPOILER ALERT, read at your own risk.

V-Wars – ‘Because I Could Not Stop for Death’ Synopsis

The government struggles to contain and understand the outbreak. Kaylee (Jacky Lai) interviews Luther’s ex-wife, while Danika (Kimberly-Sue Murray) pays her sister a visit.

Overview

A lot of drama and new characters here! Let’s start by new vampires showing up and Luther (Ian Somerhalder) already working for the government. He’s trying to explain them the way they should manage the outbreak, but, surprise: the government won’t be so understanding. Michael (Adrian Holmes) is still on the run, apparently having more control over his body and thirst.

In this episode they finish to intertwine the bikers story line with Michael’s. One of the bikers was infected and is now a vampire, something their leader seems to find pretty cool.

When they find a new lead about Michael, Luther begs to join the operation. He desperately needs to go with them to try and prevent some serious attack on his friend. He doesn’t care about putting himself in danger if that will help his friend.

Kaylee keeps searching for the truth about this mysterious attacks. She interviews Luther’s ex-wife, Rachel (Nikki Reed). She’s portrayed as an obsessive and “crazy” person, too dangerous to be near her own son. We can even see her slapping Luther in the middle of a restaurant! I have to confess I didn’t like at all Rachel’s character, I feel I wouldn’t get along with her. Luther divorced her for a reason, right?

Putting the main plots aside, they show us another character: Danika Dubov. She’s also a vampire, but it looks a bit different than Michael and the other ones we saw. Why? Exactly. When she meets her sister she experiences some weird symptoms and it’s clear she’s not human, but it’s very intriguing that she shows different signs.

Another interesting thing that happens here is how Dez indirectly helps his dad to make advances in his search for the cure.

V-Wars – ‘Because I Could Not Stop for Death’ Review

I was already excited to watch this episode, since previous ones only started the drama and kept making them bigger! We’re presented new characters and new sub-plots, what makes the show more interesting. I didn’t understand first why they’d put a group of bikers there, out of nowhere, but they managed to make everything that happens perfectly related.

The set got darker (the lights, the colours, even the weather), which unconsciously makes us know and feel things will only get worse.

The cast keep doing an amazing job, they absolutely nail their roles and make the spectator feel everything the character is going through. It melted my heart how they showed Luther and Jess’s first meeting, although the situation was very sad. I have to make a special shout out to Kimberly-Sue Murray (Danika Dubov), her entrance to the show was spectacular.

I can’t wait to see what Luther and Michael will do in the next episodes!! I feel they’ll have to make very important and dangerous decisions, and you?
