The Lost Samaritan Review
The Lost Samaritan is a 2009 movie starring Ian Somerhalder and Ruta Gedmintas.
A workaholic accountant, a waitress who spends her days doing night shifts in a road bar and two men who make their living “doing errands”. Three absolute different worlds that, in the space of one night, will intertwine and create pure chaos.
THE PLOT
This movie has multiple subplots happening at the same time, and even though the first thirty minutes are very well executed and connected, the rest of the movie has some plot twists that I don’t specially like.
The way they link William, the waitress and the hit men’s stories is very good; but William and the waitress’s subplot could have been much better. They force their development too much and it looks quite far-fetched, causing the rest of the movie to flop a little.
THE CAST
Ian Somerhalder managed to embody the protagonist (William Archer) in a masterful way, as always. He knew how to transmit the introvert and submissive character and how he evolved alongside with the movie series of events.
Despite the mistakes of the plot, the cast did an amazing job portraying their characters. If Ian didn’t play that role, I think the movie would be much worse. Once again we can see Ian’s chameleonic character, and it’s a very enjoyable thing.
THE SET
I must confess I loved how they set the story. Everything looked very natural, somehow every character fitted perfectly in every moment and place. They show us the typical USA image anyone from outside the USA has, and they manage this stereotype very well.
GENERAL OPINION
In spite of how much I loved Ian’s performance and how his story and development melted my heart, the movie in general didn’t impact me too much. I feel Ian had all the weight on his shoulders carrying this movie, in every way, and even though he did it very good, the final result is a movie to watch while you take a nap.
