The Executioner And Her Way Of Life “Monstrine” Review

The Executioner And Her Way Of Life “Monstrine” is the eight episode of the Virgin Road anime. With the attempt to trap Akari in Pandemonium a failure, in episode 7, Menou returns to Libelle with her only to be ambushed by members of the Fourth. The attackers are defeated and arrested, but are forcibly turned into monsters by Manon to prevent them from spilling any secrets. The other members of the Fourth confront Manon, as monstrine is supposed to be an addictive and euphoric substance to be sold to fund their operations, as well as hold people hostage with the threat of using the monstrine to turn them into monsters. Manon reveals that she secretly slipped monstrine into their food, leaving them no choice but to follower her orders as she continues her plans against Menou as revenge for the death of her mother. Menou is tasked by Pastor Cilica to stop the production of monstrine in return for travel funds. Momo begins to investigate the source of the monstrine and encounters Ashuna again, who is also investigating the Fourth. Menou is able to secure an invitation to a ball Manon is hosting, but is forced to bring Akari with her when she insists on attending as well.

The Monstrine Plot

This is definitely a start to a great new arc for the show. Manon is seriously terrifying and clearly doesn’t care about what she has to do and who she has to kill in order to get revenge on Menou, why? This episode doesn’t say but it’s clear she’ll stop at nothing to make Menou hurt. For once Menou is on the back foot, not realising that Manon knows exactly who she is and what she is at the time of the ball, Menou and Akari are clearly walking into a trap and I love the tension that brings.

I have a strong feeling that Manon may be descended or related to the girl that’s mentioned who was an outsider with the Pure Concept “Chaos” as the members of the fifth mentioned Manon didn’t “inherit her mothers powers.” I really hope that’s the case because that’ll make an already threatening villain all the more terrifying and powerful.
