The Deadwood Movie IS Happening – AT LAST!
Attention hoopleheads, break open the peaches cos the Deadwood Movie is officially a go at HBO!
The confirmation came from HBO programming president Casey Bloys at the TCA summer press tour on Wednesday.
All of these people worked hard to get this together. It’s been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together, but we are there. It is greenlit. – Bloys
After extensive wrangling of schedules production is set to begin in October with all the major players you’d expect on board. One notable absence of course will be the mighty Powers Boothe, who played rival saloon owner (and constant thorn in Al Swearengen’s side) Cy Tolliver.
Bloys was questioned on the subject of the movie last year and had this to say about the script,
I wanted a script that would stand on its own … I’m happy to say that David (Milch, series creator) totally delivered on that. It’s a terrific script.
What is Deadwood?
If you’re not as excited as I am at this point, chances are you probably weren’t a fan of the original show. Set in Deadwood, South Dakota in the 1870s, the show charted the rise of the town from mining camp to thriving settlement. It starred Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, and John Hawkes. I highly recommend picking up the boxset and settling in for a marathon. I plan to ahead of the movie debuting sometime in 2019.
