Superman & Lois – Loyal Subjekts Roundtable Review

A little late (yay real life getting in the way) and it’s time for PurpleBrina, Clare and Rike to talk about Superman & Lois – Loyal Subjekts.

Loyal Subjekts Synopsis

Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch), Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik) and Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) team up to piece together the significance of Smallville to Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner).

What did you think when Superman went down after being shot?

C: I had a total panic moment wondering what was wrong, if the goons robbing the bank were somehow working for Edge and had new weapons maybe. Then I remembered him breathing strangely early in the fight and figured it must be the gas. Then I got REALLY mad at General Lane (Dylan Walsh) for the millionth time this season.

R: Already had a strange feeling when he entered the bank. His breathing was something which got me like: What’s wrong with you?” Things calmed down at least a bit once he kicked them all one by one. But I was so damn worried about him when he was lying on the ground. Don’t like seeing him like that. I prefer the “kicking some asses” Superman. However, I agree with PB it was pleasing to my eyes seeing a shirtless Clark again. This content is approved.

PB: I was in shock but I knew that something was up. Also I am not mad at the fact I got to see Tyler shirtless again. Even if he was covered in bruises, it was still damn hot.

Thoughts on Grandpa Lane being kicked out of the family? Do you think this will push his inner hate for Superman overboard or will he come around?

PB: I knew he was no good and I have a feeling this is going to make him hate Superman even more.

R: God damn I loved the scene between Jonathan and Sam. Him calling Sam a coward. What a mood. Completely agree with him and I’m happy that he went off. Thanks Jonathan. It’s what he deserves. But I guess, like Clare already said, this won’t end well. The situation won’t improve from now on. Exactly the opposite is gonna happen, but I’ll take it.

C: Well given the ending, him saving her and Jonathan (Jordan Elsass), I think maybe Lois has softened on that point. But can we talk about Jonathan fully telling his grandpa that he thinks he’s a dick? Cos that was 32 flavours of awesome!

Lois is having some crazy “mom guilt” Do you think she is feeling this way more because of her recent issues with her loss of a child or is she justified in her guilt?

R: As a mother you are always worried about your children, no matter what. Even if you might not be the one to blame for what happened. It’s always the same, but I think with Lois it’s a bit too much lately. Maybe truly showing her feelings and don’t hide anything will help her one day.

C: I think Jonathan was partly right, most of the trouble he’s gotten into lately has been his own fault, but I do think Lois and Clark are a little to blame for keeping the boys in the dark for as long as they did about everything that is going on in their lives.

PB: As a mom I get it but I think she is a little over a top with her feelings. I think I agree with Jonathon because a lot of the stuff that happened to him and his brother was their own fault. Teenagers will be teenagers.

Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Clark’s father son moment – thoughts?

C: Well frankly any time Jordan isn’t being a whiny brat is good for me. When he actually listens to his dad and accepts that Clark knows a whole lot more about being Kryptonian and having powers and how to deal with them he’s actually pretty okay.

PB: It was one of the first times I liked Jordan. He wasn’t being a whiny teenager.

R: I pretty much enjoyed this one scene when Jonathan was getting better, Clark was tearing up a bit and then ending up with a big hug. Don’t know but this really got me. Wouldn’t mind more of that to be honest. Gimme all the hugs and emotions, please.

Morgan Edge is building an army of Super Soldiers with some sort of alien technique. Do you think these ‘Loyal Subjekts’ can be unbrainwashed or will they just have to be killers?

R: First of all, can I just say that I did enjoy watching all of these short “Morgan Edge office’ scenes. The way they used this technique where you’re feeling like you’re walking in his office yourself. Awesome. But let’s come to the point: I do believe that these people can be unbrainwashed in some kind of way. I don’t know how, but I hope they’ll figure something out, I mean, there’s always a good solution, right? I trust them to be able to do it and save this city from these super soldiers.

C: I don’t know if it’s brainwashing so much as using X-K “kills” the person they were and allows a Kryptonian to take over their body. Although they do seem to retain some of who they are, kinda like a sleeper agent. I hope that maybe a combo of Lois’s investigative reporter brains, combined with John Henry’s tech and maybe some DOD expertise can defeat these newly superpowered folks, or unbind the X-K from them.  My Smallville brain is going “oooh can they find Gold K?” as that was used to strip a Kryptonian of their powers permanently.

PB: Honestly, I am at a loss of how those people can be helped.

Morgan Edge called Superman “Brother” who do you think he is?

R: Gotta admit I have no idea. Not at all. But if you say he could be Zod then I trust you with this one guys. Can we just talk about his suit for a second? Damn. I should shut up I guess. They would be a great duo, besides the fact that Morgan Edge is a pretty bad guy. Good looking for sure.

PB: I am thinking Zod, maybe.

C: My immediate reaction was Zod, although the symbol on his chest wasn’t any of those previously associated with Zod. Also if they are brothers, wouldn’t he use the symbol of the House of El like Clark does? Or did he just mean brother as in “we’re both Kryptonian so we are bros”? Ugh, stupid cliffhanger!

So that’s it for our discussion of Superman & Lois – Loyal Subjekts. The episode is streaming now on the CW website and app. What did you think of the episode FANdemaniacs? Let us know in the comments.
