Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie “My Girlfriend Is So Cute” is the first episode of the Shikimori anime series by Doga Kobo animations. This episode introduces us pretty quickly to all our main characters. Shikimori and her boyfriend Izumi. Izumi’s pal Inuzuka and Shikimori’s friends, Neko and Yui. From the beginning it’s made 100% clear that Izumi is a magnet for trouble but Shikimori is strong enough to protect him, not that she necessarily wants to be. All she wants is to be called cute by her boyfriend but he only ever says she’s cute in his head. Noko and Yui clearly know what Shikimori wants because they encourage her to purposefully lose whilst bowling to look cute.
Shiki Is Tough
Whilst she may not want to be known as cool or tough that’s precisely what she is. Shiki keeps her thoughts to herself and Izumi keeps his to himself, making this another one of those “going through ridiculous lengths because we can’t communicate properly” romance shows and I am so here for it! Usually that kind of thing would frustrate me but because this is clearly a tongue in cheek show about a girl who cant help but be super cool and hates it, and her danger magnet boyfriend, I’m all for seeing the funny side.
I found Izumi’s bowling skills especially funny. The guy just cannot catch a break and I feel so sorry for him. Thankfully no matter what happens, Shiki’s there to protect him and it’s set up that it’ll always be that way but I wonder if that’s true.
I loved that the characters of Inuzuka, Neko and Yui were fully explored here. They didn’t just focus on the main pair because I already love Inuzuka and Yui is already best girl. Something tells me she’s nowhere near as adorable as she seems.
Can’t wait for the wholesome second episode, I love it already!
