The Rising Of The Shield Hero “Footprints Of The Spirit Tortoise” Review

The Rising Of The Shield Hero “Footprints Of The Spirit Tortoise” is the twenty seventh episode of the Shield Hero anime. Following the fight at the end of episode 26 a desperate war meeting is called, however only Raphtalia is allowed inside with Naofumi. The green haired woman at the end of the last episode shows up and introduces herself as Ost Horai, the Spirit Tortoises familiar. She explains that the Tortoise’s seal has been broken and she has no idea who did it. Meanwhile, Naofumi gets everyone ready for war by assigning them all their own unique tasks.

Raphtalia’s Hope

This episode very much acts as a pathway between 26 and the battle between the Spirit Tortoise. Could be called a filler but I think it was too informative for that. Suddenly everyone now knows that the spirit tortoise was one of four to be used in case the hero’s failed, which is looking more and more likely, and that there are other’s summoned to this world to serve in the Seven Stars but not much info is given there.

A very info dump heavy episode but a necessary one. I especially loved the moment Naofumi assumed the worst in all the generals who were all desperate to lead and after being encouraged by Raphtalia didn’t just turn his back on them like he usually would. He took into consideration all of their perspective skills for the task ahead and used them together. But really it was Raphtalia’s belief in the fact that they were good people at heart that changed his mind, that was an adorable moment but a poignant one for showing how much of an affect Raphtalia has had on Naofumi’s life.

I liked it, it was slow but understandably so, and I’m now more curious than ever about this new information that’s been brought to light. I really want to know more about the Seven Star weapons but that’ll have to wait unfortunately. For now, battle! Can’t wait for next week!
