Star on Disney Plus: Everything you need to know

Star, as part of Disney Plus, was launched on February 23, 2021, in Canada, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. It will expand to more markets later that year.

If you don’t know what’s going on, don’t worry. We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Star, including an overview of what it is all about, the price in general, what shows and movies are on Star and more.

What is Star on Disney Plus?

As of now, Disney+ has different “channels” for each of its content divisions. Starting with Marvel and Star Wars right through to Pixar and National Geographic. Star has been chosen as the new name to cover the shows Disney owns that are intended for an adult audience.

How much is Star on Disney Plus?

Disney Plus subscriptions changed on 23 February 2021 for all new subscribers. For this reason, newcomers will have to pay the new price straight away. On a happier note, existing account holders won’t have their prices rise until 23 August 2021.

The monthly prices have changed from £5.99 (6,99€) per month to £7.99 (8,99€) per month. Annual subscriptions have risen from £59.99 (69,99€) to £79.90 (89,90€).

If you are simply happy with Disney+ family friendly content and not interested in Star, there is no way to opt out of having Star to keep your prices the same.

How to set parental controls

When you log in to Disney Plus, you’ll be prompted to protect any user profiles that you’ve added so that your kids don’t accidentally stumble upon mature-content from Star.

At first, you’ll be asked to confirm whether you (the main account holder) would like to access all content available on Disney Plus. After that, you’ll be prompted to set a four-digit pin to prevent others from mistakenly accessing your profile.

You can then set different content ratings for each user profile on your account. There are six content ratings that you can choose from based on how old your children are. It’s easy to change these at any time within your profile settings.

Is there an extra app for Star?

No, you don’t need to worry about manually downloading Star to Disney Plus. It has already been added automatically on 23 February.
