Love, Victor : Close Your Eyes Round Table Review

Season finale time! We are back again with another round table review for Episode 10 “Close Your Eyes” from our beloved show “Love, Victor”. Let’s see what’s gonna happen this time. Are you guys ready for some more Creakwood drama? Joining me (Rike) on this round table review are Serena, Lena and Jen. Let’s do this!

Love, Victor : Close Your Eyes Synopsis

At Harold’s (Mekhi Phifer) wedding, Mia (Rachel Hilson) makes a bold decision, while Victor (Michael Cimino) and Felix (Anthony Turpel) consider their futures.

Your opinion about this episode in general?

R: What a perfect season finale with some unexpected plot twists. The cliffhanger left me like: “NO, you can’t do this to me. Show us who’s behind that door right now.” My impatient self isn’t able to wait until S3 comes out next year or whenever. However, I truly loved the song “Time After Time” in the end. Perfect choice, which gave some sort of extra special vibe in my opinion.

J: A great season finale forsure! Not sure what else to say about that.

S: This finale had a lot of stuff happening. This was a great episode as always and definitely a great final episode for the season.

L: A wedding always seems to be the place of the heaviest self-reflection. So much happened, for every single character! Really liked this as the season’s ending. The ending of this episode was frustrating – yes – but I kinda expected it the longer the episode went on.

Andrew (Mason Gooding) quite had the character development in S2. One example of that would be him confronting Harold during the wedding reception. In the end he’s driving Mia to see her mother for the first time in over a decade. Your thoughts?

R: I truly enjoyed watching Andrew throughout this whole season. Definitely a great character development compared to S1. He just told Harold what we all wanted to say for ages. He stepped up for Mia and I love him for doing that. Mia just couldn’t do it anymore, which I understand. So Andrew was like: Okay, let’s do this. To be honest, Harold is one of the few people I truly dislike on the show. Him being like “I vow to always put your happiness first and my ambition second.” Sure, you keep lying to yourself and everyone else. We all know that’s some bullsh*t. Sorry. But he really made me wanna punch him with a baseball bat.

J: Even though I mentioned before that Andrew still isn’t my favorite, I did really enjoy his character development and watching him grow. I’m glad that he stepped up for Mia and comforted her, but not completely sure what it is, I still don’t trust him 100%. I’m curious to see where his journey will lead in the next season, maybe then I’ll finally to start liking him even more.

S: I love Andrew this season. They really did give him 180 in character over the ‘summer’ and I love it. He has been there for almost every character this season without losing his own and I really enjoyed him. I’m happy he confronted Mia’s dad, who has proven more than once that he is very selfish in his wants and I’m glad Andrew was there both to let him know and also to support Mia in the search for her mother and away from her dad.

L: Andrew is so great this season. I love that he is here for Mia through all the stuff piling onto her. I am very very curious to see Mia’s mother in the next season. Unsure how that is going to go, but at least she reached out. You live and you learn – could be great for Mia. Hopefully her mom is finally ready to be there for her. fingers crossed

Lucy (Ava Capri) admits that she always saw Lake (Bebe Wood) with someone totally different. Do you think the writers will explore Lake’s sexuality next season? Will they end up together?

R: I truly didn’t expect this plot twist to be completely honest with you but I sure am loving it!! They would be pretty damn cute together and I’m sure the writers will explore Lake’s sexuality after what we’ve seen. A look says more than a thousand words, am I right?

J: I also didn’t see this plot twist coming at all but I’m honestly all here for it. I truly hope that this wasn’t only a situation of queerbait but actually will be further explored in the upcoming season. I’m not sure whether Lucy and Lake will actually end up together, but I would love it if Lake would find herself a nice girl. Unfortunately there’s still not enough bisexual or w/w representation in media, so please give it to me right now!

S: Yes the writers will definitely try and explore Lake’s sexuality. I feel like it kind of comes randomly in the story since Felix broke up with her and already found someone new, but I’m sure they will know how to not make it look like a forced love trope just so everyone has a partner again for S3. I like that they finally gave more characters a chance to explore themselves and their feelings. It’s clear in the scene that whatever spark she is feeling towards Lucy is something she didn’t expect herself. I’m excited to see where they take this next season.

L: Unexpected but not unwelcome twist of things. I can totally see Lake as a powerful bisexual woman. Excited to see where this takes her. Lucy was definitely a great character, so she’d be great for Lake too.

Do you think Isabel (Ana Ortiz) and Armando (James Martinez) will be willing to give their marriage another chance after what we’ve seen in this episode?

R: I do hope that Armando isn’t visiting Isabel just to have some fun together and then going back to Shelby (Julie Benz). This better not happen. I’ve got hope that they’ll figure things out this time. Armando had some time to go and try something new and in the meantime Isabel had some time to go and work on herself. Maybe this might help them get things back to normal. Let’s see.

J: I think they will. It definitely felt like a build-up for them properly getting back together next season, but I guess you never can be too sure. Personally I hope that they are able to work things out. Troubles happen in the best of all marriages. Whether one can work it out is what matters the most.

S: They might? I feel like both characters changed a lot over this season and both in a good way. They have grown as individuals and that might help them if they do decide to give it another go.

L: I think they might too. They realised a lot this season and had some individual and needed character developments.

Who do you think Victor chose in the end? Benji (George Sear) or Rahim (Anthony Keyvan)? Who would you prefer?

R: I’m gonna say this one first: Benji and Victor had some really great moments together not gonna lie. But I feel like Rahim would be some sort of next level relationship if you know what I mean. This could be some sort of a next step for both of them. I already said that they’re truly adorable together and that I would support them no matter what. But I’m not sure if the writers will let both Felix and Victor choose their new love interest. Who knows. I’ve got my favorite here, but this doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t support Victor and Benji back at it again as well. Feel like both options have their positive and negative aspects, right?

J: Benji. 100%. That’s not only what I am hoping for but also what I am wishing for. Even though they had their problems and not everything has always been great, in the end I do think they make a great team and I don’t think I am ready to let go of them yet. While I do think, that Rahim would also be a good partner for Victor, I honestly do see them more as close friends.

S: Benji. That is my one and final answer. We did not watch them struggle for 2 seasons to have Victor choose the easy way of a new relationship when he barely knows Rahim. Felix’s ‘Close your eyes’ speech made it very clear that Victor probably did run to Benji’s house. “Think of who you want to build a life with and a future”, It would be so shallow if Victor picks Rahim over this. Like don’t get me wrong, relationships change and grow or can grow toxic over time, but I really feel like all the conflict this season between Benji and Victor was really because they are both idiots that can’t seem to communicate (Like a lot of teens) and aren’t the ultimate dealbreakers. Victor doesn’t have to stay with the same guy the entire show, but I would be very disappointed in the writers if they start S3 with Victor at Rahim his house.

L: I hope and think it is Benji. They went through so much and grew together a lot. Sometimes it is difficult, but that doesn’t mean it is not worth it. The message of Victor just jumping ship so quickly when it gets a bit hard in his relationship – I am not sure I want to see that message sent. With Rahim everything is kinda easy, so I feel like I don’t truly know if they could work through something harder – which will eventually come up – yet. I can see them as gay best friends, but not really as a couple. Victor fell so hard and fast in love with Benji, without even a second thought and I feel like with Rahim he only really considered it once they kissed. He was still hung up on Benji anyway, which could have made him not see it, but I don’t think that was it. Plus I do not think the writers are putting both Felix and Victor with their new love interests.

Your score:

R: 9. A lot of unexpected plot twists and a great season finale in general.

J: 9! I absolutely loved the finale, however i can’t say what exactly it was (maybe it was the cliffhanger) that was missing for it to be a 10.

S: 9. I would have given it a 10 if it wasn’t for that awful cliffhanger.

L: a very solid 10/10
