Broken Gargoyles

Broken Gargoyles

Synopsis

The First World War is over. Britain claims a victory, but for the casualties of war the fight for a normal life is far from over. An unhappy reunion will force two lost souls to come to terms with the damage they’ve done to each other. This is Broken Gargoyles.

Broken Gargoyles is an upcoming crowdfunded project brought to you by Reid Productions. From writer Fred Fergus (I Hate Suzie, Intergalactic) and director Freddy Carter (Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, Free Rein).

Those involved had this to say on the project:

“We are aiming produce the short film ‘Broken Gargoyles’ later this year. We hope that it will offer a shocking and original viewpoint on the devastating effects of war and how seemingly innocuous acts can sometimes be anything but.”

Director Freddy Carter had this to say:

‘This is a story of miscommunication and misplaced blame. Oakwood blames Vanessa for his injuries and ruining his life. Vanessa, on the other hand, is trapped, blaming herself. Neither of them consider that the establishment may be a more fitting target for their ire. I hope that Broken Gargoyles will explore these systems of power which keep the working classes and the oppressed blaming each other, while their real persecutors go ignored. How they slink out of the room almost unnoticed before anyone starts pointing fingers. All of this will be set against the rich backdrop of post war Britain, in the hinterland between the atrocities of the First World War and the exaltation of the Roaring Twenties.’

With the cast for the short recently announced as including Rosalind Eleazar (Harlots, Deep Water), Tom Forbes (Knightfall, Free Rein) and James Ellis, we’re certain that it will be thought-provoking and poignant piece that evokes strong emotional responses with all who see it.
