RWBY Vol 8 Chapter 13 – Worthy Discussion

Building up to an incredibly tense finale, Sophie, Clare and Nathaniel are back to talk about RWBY Vol 8 Chapter 13 –  Worthy.

RWBY Vol 8 Chapter 13 – Worthy Synopsis

The best laid plans…

This chapter had a lot going on – favourite moments?

S – Nora (Samantha Ireland) flying around on her grenade launcher was hilarious, all she needed was a pointy hat.

C  – Honestly? Nora zipping about on Magnhild like a witch on a broom was all kinds of wonderful.

N – I agree with Clare and Sophie, that was amazing to see and surprisingly upbeat for how morbid the scene in the background is. However for me getting to see Penny’s (Taylor McNee) weapons but with a slightly new design, similar weapons but we get a crystal looking effect that’s manifested from either her aura or the maiden powers.

Ren (Neath Oum), Emerald (Katie Newville) and Oscar (Aaron Dismuke) arrived in Vacuo ahead of the refugees and walked right into a massive sandstorm, how do you think that will affect things?

N – Mass panic. Meaning Ren is going to have to try his hardest to mask all of the refugees but he’s only going to be able to do that for so long, there’s going to be fighting on both sides of the gateways.

S – It’s gonna cause panic, which will attract all kinds of Grimm. Our heroes need to get a wriggle on to deal with it.

C – I think Ren is going to last about a nanosecond trying to mask all of those people without Jaune (Miles Luna)’s backup. Having read the RWBY novels I have a funny feeling there is something big and mean lurking in that storm that is going to cause issues!

Cinder (Jessica Nigri) turned up and screwed everything up, as per usual. Were you shocked by her indiscriminate killing as she went after our heroes? So many people got blasted off the platforms, not to mention wiping out the control room in Atlas.

N – She is definitely focused and is starting to get in league with Salem and doesn’t seem to worry about collateral damage anymore. She’s getting less predictable and this fact has definitely proven to be a handful for everyone.

C – I think that was probably part of her plan, to cause as much devastation as possible, especially in the transit area, to distract our heroes. Splitting them up by making them protect the vulnerable makes them easier to attack.

S – This is her thing, I really hope she doesn’t make it to the next season but as Rooster Teeth have a tendency to do exactly what I don’t want it’s clearly gonna happen. I wasn’t surprised just disappointed, she ruins everything.

Cinder used the final question to find out what Team RWBY had planned. How do you think Salem will react to that?

C  – I don’t know. I don’t think Salem actually needs the questions does she? She just needs to unite the four relics and bring the Gods back to Remnant. So she might not care all that much.

S – As Salem didn’t know the password I would imagine she wanted to ask a question, I’m crossing my fingers for her kicking Cinder’s ass!

N – Salem has lived a very long time I don’t think losing access to the final question will stop any of her plans.

What did you think about Harriet (Anairis Quinones) basically saving her own ass (and the stupid bomb) without any concern for even the rest of the Ace-Ops?

S – I think I hate her more than Cinder which is really saying something. Her behaviour this season has been appalling. Who needs enemies when you have friends like her!

N – I don’t think I’d be as quite savage as Sophie, as my hatred for Cinder is strong. But she really needs to see what’s going on around her but she has lost her authority figure so it makes sense that now Ironwood is Clover’s replacement and she’s showing no remorse or thinking about consequences when it comes to following her orders.

C –  My hatred for her escalated dramatically this chapter, especially when she comes down and sees Vine and is all “glad to see someone else made it.” BITCH YOU LEFT EVERYONE BEHIND! She really is a cold, unfeeling wench. I could almost see her switching sides, she’s that pathologically obsessed with following orders.

We know after the last couple of chapters that Ironwood (Jason Rose) is basically irredeemable but nuking a captive Jacques Schnee?

N – His sadly irredeemable at this point, I was hoping he’d see the light but it’s way too late now. But in all defence not sad in the slightest about the death of Jacques Schnee.

C – If I didn’t make it clear with my glee at him getting his ass well and truly handed to him in the last chapter then I shall spell it out – James Ironwood is absolutely beyond redemption, I hate him, and I hope he doesn’t survive this volume.

S – I completely agree with Clare, he is too far gone to be redeemed. MAYBE IF he sacrifices himself for a good thing but I can’t see that happening.

Okay… time to talk about THAT moment. Yang (Barbara Dunkelman) being knocked off the platform into the void by Neo.  How are you doing Soph?

S – NOPE! BIG FAT NOPE! That did not happen. Yang is fine. There is no way anything bad can happen to Yang. She is FINE!! What are you even talking about? Nothing happened.

N  – How is it both Cinder and Neo annoy me so much, I wasn’t ok at all with this and they really didn’t give us any time to cope with it.

C  – I am definitely concerned about the next time I cosplay Neo and Sophie is Yang, she’s going to kick my ass. I know she’s a title character, but after the warning Ambrosius gave specifically not to fall off I am really worried. But surely they can’t have RWBY without the Y…

Can we talk about the animation style in the last couple of chapters, it’s had a much more “anime” feeling to it – Jaune’s exit when Renora had their moment, the refugees all hiding behind the stairs when Jaune went through the portal, even when the Atlesian drone Watts hijacked was running at Qrow, Robyn and Marrow. How are you feeling about it?

N – I’m loving it, when you compare how it used to be to now the whole show just flows a lot more. But they really are going above and beyond for example most anime’s will have background characters for example people walking through the city as pedestrians and so on but they’ll be black silhouettes were as in RWBY we’re seeing slight alterations in the colour palette meaning all the background characters look different from one another.

C – I’ve really enjoyed it, and the animation this volume as a whole. The fights have been great, the character moments even better. CRWBY really are smashing it.

S – I’ve really enjoyed it, it made really horrible situations feel a little more light hearted. The animation team has been doing an amazing job.

Winter (Elizabeth Maxwell) is facing off against Ironwood, calling him an enemy of the Kingdom.

C – Hell yeah she is and damn right he is. I hope she kicks him down that hole he tossed Oscar down last volume and Atlas lands on top of him! Like the house falling on the witch in the Wizard of Oz!

S – Well she isn’t wrong is she? I hope she is the one to take him out, this would be really important for her character.

N – She’s not wrong but I’m surprised he actually managed to get any hits in.

The chapter ends with Ren, Emerald and Oscar stuck in Vacuo with no way back, no way of communicating with the others, and a whole ass army of Grimm bearing down on them and the refugees. Predictions on how this will play out?

S – Oh my, Penny needs to hurry up and get through the doorway to help out! They will get slaughtered if backup doesn’t arrive soon. Bit of a temperature change for the citizens of Atlas though!

N – Honestly I think they can hold their own but I don’t think it will be an easy battle but they certainly have the skills to win it.

C –  I really hope that we are going to see CVFY and/or SSSN show up to help them out, saying that they picked up some disturbance or massive wave of Grimm and came to check it out. Cos otherwise I feel like they are in BIG trouble.
