Synopsis

Jacques (Jason Douglas) and Ironwood (Jason Rose) engage in a dangerous game of wits. Meanwhile, the kids must face their most dangerous threat yet: a high class dinner party.

RWBY Vol 7 Episode 8 Cordially Invited

We finally got to meet the missing member of the Schnee family, what were your impressions of Willow (Caitlin Glass)?

C – well I’m pretty sure she could drink Qrow (Jason Liebrecht) under the table for a start, and that’s saying something. Also possibly explains why Winter (Elizabeth Maxwell) always had such an issue with him and his drinking, reminding her of mommy dearest.

S – FINALLY!! MRS SCHNEE!! I have very mixed feelings about it, to be honest though the whole scene was underwhelming, I mean at least the team will finally know about Watts but come on Willow stop drinking and do something!! She makes me angry! Saying that Weiss left Whitley (Howard Wang) well, who does she think started that tradition!

C – She did do something useful though, by installing cameras all over the house we now have proof of Jacques meeting with Watts and being involved with Salem. But I agree that dig at Weiss (Kara Eberle) about leaving Whitley was unnecessary coming from a woman who abandoned ALL of her children in favour of a bottle

Speaking of Whitley being the utmost pain in the butt and stopping Weiss from exploring the house. That distraction technique seemed a little rehearsed..

S – It was very well choreographed yet still quite improvised, this was probably my favourite moment of this episode.

C – Part of me wants to hate Whitley being being such an irritating little snot, but after hearing what Willow had to say, I almost feel sorry for him. He’s basically been alone with Jacques for so long he’s morphing into a mini-me of his dad. Had either his mother or his sisters been around more to be a balancing influence he might not be such a turd. However the distraction from Team JNR was absolutely outstanding!

So Watts turned off the lighting/heating to make it snow.. What do you think he is up to?

S – whatever it is it’s not going to be good, how long was it Weiss said you could survive in the extreme cold of Atlas?

C – Yeah I think this is going to be a big hurdle not only for our gang but also for Robyn Hill (Christina Vee) and the people of Mantle. The longer that Ironwood holds out on telling everyone what he is up to with the Amity Tower the worse things are going to get for the poor people down there.

Closing thoughts?

S – I think this episode was just setting up for the next chapter of this story, it was on quite a go slow. There were some moments that happened in this one like the look between Qrow and Clover (Christopher Wehkamp)… get a room already! Winter’s comment about Ironwood having to pay her to make her smile for the cameras as they arrived at the house.

C – 100% agree on Qrow and Clover, that moment between them absolutely fricking sizzled. Yeah, it was a sort of non-event episode. It had a few good moments, like finally meeting Willow and the distraction at the party, but other than that it felt like it was stalling for time. I’m sure that just means things are about to ramp up as we head towards the end of the season. According to IMDb we have 5 episodes left after this, so things should start coming together quite quickly.
