Lou
Vic(Ashleigh Cummings) is in trouble. Charlie Manx(Zachary Quinto) has destroyed her knife and left her for dead in a house fire. Not only that, he has Vic’s boyfriend, Craig(Dalton Harrod), in the trunk of his Wraith. Alone, trapped, wounded, and unsure of where she is, she heads for the main road.
Thankfully, a biker stops. His name is Lou Carmody(Jonathan Langdon), and he immediately takes her to the nearest phone.
Gunbarrel, Colorado
The nearest phone is at a gas station. Vic calls Maggie(Jahkara J. Smith), and gets a surprise. She is in Colorado!
Craig had cut Charlie’s gas line, and he is in need of gas. As Maggie uses her tiles to warn Vic that Charlie is coming, he pulls up.
Immediately, Vic goes into protection mode. She asks for weapons, and has a mother and child hide in the back of the store. Vic asks Lou if he has ever used a gun, and he does not readily answer. She shoves a gun in his hand and goes outside.
Vic vs Charlie, Part Two
Confronting Charlie with the same words he used on her, she tells him to come out and say “how do”.
Lou puts the gun to Charlie, and Vic gets in the Wraith, looking for the keys to the trunk. Craig finds a tire iron, and punches a hole through the backseat. This pretty much takes him out of the frying pan and into the fire(foreshadowing), as a very hungry Bradley(Pierson Salvador) attacks him.
As Vic wrestles with Bradley and tries to rescue Craig, Lou is finding out that Charlie knows all about him. This unnerves him and gives Charlie the upper hand. He takes the gun, and aims it at Lou.
“Save Yourself”
Thinking quickly, Vic covers the Wraith in gasoline from the hose and holds a lighter over it. Vic drops the lighter, igniting the Wraith. She jumps back in, and tries to pull Craig into the front seat. They discover together that its protective barrier won’t allow this. Knowing there is no hope, Craig tells her to save herself.
Again thinking fast, Vic runs to a fire extinguisher that is rusted shut. By the time she gets it undone, the fire has found the cut lines, and the car explodes, killing Craig and Bradley.
But Charlie is a decrepit near corpse on the ground, unable to fight.
Surprising News
At the hospital, Vic is getting checked out. In the examination room, the doctor tells her she has pulled ligaments, frostbite(from Bradley’s touch), oh, and she’s pregnant.
Lou comes into her room and tells Vic that he will be there for her, if she ever needs him. Vic hugs him, and it is obvious that he wasn’t hugged much. WHY? HE IS SO COOL AND SWEET AND UNDERSTANDING?
Vic gets access to Charlie’s comatose body in a guarded room. She makes sure he knows how she feels about him.
The Funeral
Getting ready to go to Craig’s funeral, Vic asks her mother(Virginia Kull) about what she would have done without her father. She answers that she didn’t have a good relationship with her mother like they have, and I chokesnortlaughed, but realized that I didn’t have her basis for comparison.
Vic’s father(Ebon Moss-Bachrach) is at the funeral, and she tells him she is pregnant. Before he can really say much more, she tells him it is Craig’s.
Going outside, she sees Craig’s mother(Rebecca Gibel). She doesn’t blame Vic like I thought she would. Instead she tells her to get out of the small city, to have a life.
Taking her advice, she steals her father’s bike and heads for the bridge-or where her Inscape used to be. Maggie comes, and they talk. Maggie is staying in Haverhill, but Vic can’t stay.
More about Tabitha
Detective Hutters(Ashley Romans) visits Maggie. She finally sees that Maggie and Vic were being truthful. She also may be more receptive to the paranormal than she let on.
Time Jump
We see it is winter; Vic is working for Lou(at a horrible wage) at his garage. She is very pregnant, and seems happy in Gunbarrel. This means she gave up RISD, but is content.
BIng’s Fate and The Prison Hospital
Things aren’t ending happy this season, folks.
Bing(Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) has escaped capture, shaved his beard, changed his name, and is working for a pediatric dentist, near-you guessed it-gingerbread gas.
Charlie has been comatose since the showdown. Eyes closed, little to no brain activity. He is at a prison hospital, still under guard.
We see a nurse at the prison hospital in Charlie’s room, then the scene cuts to the Wraith. No one bought it at auction, but it is being restored. As the mechanic begins work, Charlie revives just as the nurse is ready to give him his blood transfusion. His eyes had opened just before, and he grabs her arm. He tells her all about herself and her son. Shocked, she drops the blood bag, and runs out of the room, leaving a blood trail down the hall.
Happy, Charlie smiles and leans back.
Thoughts on Gunbarrel
- Lou is a perfect hero; he believes what Vic tells him without question. Being a fellow comic book fan, his mind is more open to the supernatural.
- Also, Lou. Just…Lou. He has had a hellish life, and chose to rise above it and be a sweet soul.
- If you didn’t get emotional when Vic screamed at Craig’s death, are you human?
- We get an F-bomb!
- Finding out Vic was pregnant was a shocker. They had condoms!
- I jumped at Charlie grabbing the nurse’s arm!
- Kudos to Zachary Quinto for the makeup, especially in this episode. Those cataract contacts had to be annoying. Here is a memorial article about one of the pioneers in the field, Morton Greenspoon.
